You know how there’s always that one guy that is so reliable, you almost overlook him because he always comes through and doesn’t strut about talking about how he comes through? That guy (or lady) who is so good at their job, they make it look easy, which flummoxes people who don’t “get it”. That guy who has been around the track a few times and knows the highs and lows of the biz. Well, one of those guys is PETE BARRETT, the Operation Manager of WCIA in Champaign, Illinois. He chose the station for its proximity to Chicago, his hometown and where lots of his family now live. After an amazing and fun career, he’s going to retire so he can follow his creative whims. Mr. Pete went to Northern Illinois U and got his foot in the TV door in Rockford, IL, He was behind the camera then and soon saw the creative opportunities in the promo department. That was, as the saying goes, the start of a lifelong friendship. He’s headed up and gotten promoted doing promo and more at WDCA/Washington DC, WKRC/Cincinnati, KCTV in Kansas City. His mentor was GM JOHN ROSE and, he is so luck to admit, he got along with and was true partners with his News Directors. He’s off to Door County, Wisconsin where he’ll run into an old GM friend TERRY CONNELLY. How wonderful. Gonna take bets Pete will continue his participation and love of local theatre. He has a great voice (his mom was a Sweet Adeline). One hates to see such talent and integrity shut the door on an industry that has changed drastically. Please join in sharing the biggest, most heartfelt Well Dunne! Pete.
