The remarkable and lovely LEE ARMSTRONG LUMPKIN, a promo pro who ended up as GM for WSOC in Charlotte, recently posted about a pioneering TV leader, a woman, who had passed without trade notice. This stops tomorrow, when the words will come about a loss that so many women in this business owe a lot. We cannot let the ladies who made things better go unnoticed. They DID make a difference and we’ll tell their stories here. BTW, putting together a project called The Only Girl in the Room…which I hope is self-explanatory.

If you ever worked at an ABC affiliate, then you no doubt knew STU BROWER. He was the man who ALWAYS (and that is ALWAYS) had a smile, a joke, an answer, a suggestion, and reservations at some of the most delicious if unknown places to eat across the world time zones. Stu was VP of On-Air Promotions for ABC Television and was VP- Entertainment for the network. He introduced this writer to Lucy…THE Lucy – when she had a show oh so long ago. It was magic. Stu was always using his creativity to make everything around him magic, or perhaps we should say special. Stu’s smile would bring a smile to your face. His energy would revitalize. Whether you ran into him at an ABC get together, on the phone with a problem or request the network needed to address, Stu was solid and fun at the same time. His passing makes the world less happy and colder.
