Well Dunne! for September 2, 2009

Sep 2, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for September 2, 2009    Posted under: Hallmark Channel, Mark Kern, Martin Reidy, Nick Sanabria, oprah Michigan ave, Susanne Smith McAvoy

The folks at Hallmark Channel care enough to name SUSANNE SMITH McAVOY senior VP of Marketing. She was formerly VP of Ad Sales. Under the new structure, she’ll do marketing and branding. Oh, and that includes Hallmark Movie Channel, too. Also it’s a homecoming (a real Hallmark moment) for MARK KERN who’s now the VP of Communications and Media Relations. He was with Hallmark when they launched and has a background that includes media and PR for Reelz and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video companies. Well Dunne! you two.

As we move into that new world of communicating, MARTIN REIDY is poised to be in the right place at the right time for Meredith…he’s been named President of the Meredith Integrated Marketing unit. He comes from Prez of Publicis Moden and Digital. Cool.

Those of you in Chicago – that means you NICK SANABRIA – make your plans now to avoid what might be a monumental traffic jam in downtown Chicago. Oprah is going to tape her show along the famed Michigan Avenue, aka the Magnificent Mile. Tuesday Sept 8 is the tape date. Oprah never does anything but in a big way…Well Dunne.

Why lead the column off with TONY DOW, aka Wally from Leave It To Beaver? Because he’s always been a huge favorite and this is such an interesting new aspect about him. Tony is an artist, a sculptor to be more precise, and he’s showing his art at The Louvre. OMG..is that amazing! Read about it here.

Two promotions, no waiting. SHERI GOLDBERG and SHERI HELMERS are now sporting titles of Director/Network Program Publicity at LA’s Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. Best part of their jobs – the parties, of course. Why not? The duo call PAM SLAY, SVP/Network Program Publicity, boss. Well Dunne! you two.

Bout a year ago, I told you about JENNIFER GEISSER and her new corporate communications job at Hallmark, after working for CourtTV, CBS and WE. Well, she’s obviously impressing the folks at her new job, because she’s gotten a promotion. Congrats are in order for her and her new Senior Vice President Corporate Communications title. We’re sending you our very best, Jennifer. Well Dunne!

Changes and promotions at HGTV in their Marketing, Creative and Brand Strategy Group, headed by LAURIE ASBURY. Getting a bump up the ladder are SHANNON DRIVER, PAIGE HARDWICK and CHRIS MOORE. Shannon is now director, partnership & brand
extension marketing, which is a new position. Paige Hardwick has been upped to director, strategy and media planning, with oversight of on-air and off-air advertising and marketing campaigns. Chris Moore has been promoted to vice president, creative director
with responsibility for HGTV’s visual identity and creative and art direction for on-air and off-air marketing. Two getting expanded duties are ANNETTE LINDSTROM BRUN, vice president, consumer marketing, who will continue to direct consumer marketing campaigns, affiliate initiatives and cause marketing, but adds interactive and mobile marketing to her
responsibilities. Last but not lease is AUDREY ADLAM, vice president communications, now also will overseepartnership marketing, including the development and execution of retail
and media partnerships. Whew….a great big Well Dunne! to each of you.

Out in the Valley, Hallmark Channels has promoted ANTHONY WHITE to SVP, marketing. He has been VP for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. His boss is still LAURA MASSE, the lovely executive we interviewed just a few days ago. Well Dunne! Anthony and thanks Laura.

Ari Emmanuel, who I SOOO begged to be my agent way back when he was starting out (he was very polite but passed on that golden opportunity) has his own take on the writers strike. He obviously has thrown his writing clients under the bus in favor of the producers and their ages old system of sharing income with the people who made the content possible. Yes, I am 100% WITH THE WRITERS and so should you all. Don’t think that this won’t have an impact on your jobs. As a writer and a producer, I believe there’s more than enough to go around. And yes, I will be sharing my views with each column until there’s a successful resolution. Click here for Ari’s observation.
