Yes, SCOTT WOOLDRIDGE is the new CSD at Boston’s CBS, WBZ. After denying it, no doubt for GM type reasons, WENDY McMAHON confirmed via Facebook that Scott is leaving his native Minnesota and traveling east to Beantown to take the gig. Scott is a dyed in the wool Minnesota guy, and I can’t imagine him not loving Boston. Great town if you can deal with the snow, which Scott obviously can. Wendy, safe travels to LA, which you will LOVE, and Well Dunne! to Scott.
How cool is this. Do you know what tomorrow is? It’s International Bacon Day! I am not making this up. Click here to see for yourself and thank you one and all.
Borrowing someone else’s idea to make yourself a success? That’s the gist of the new marketing book BORROWING BRILLIANCE. Read all about it.
Think About This: “There is no escaping karma. In a previous life, you never called, you never wrote, you never visited. And whose fault was that?” ~ Whomever
Why lead the column off with TONY DOW, aka Wally from Leave It To Beaver? Because he’s always been a huge favorite and this is such an interesting new aspect about him. Tony is an artist, a sculptor to be more precise, and he’s showing his art at The Louvre. OMG..is that amazing! Read about it here.
MEDIAPOST has a good article about the Hallmark Channel’s extensive marketing campaign “Home for the Holidays”. Check it out here.
Think About This: “Divine law works without fail; therefore having done your best, resign the rest to God’s mercy, wisdom and love. Never think that you know what is good for you. God alone knows, and sends according to your need. Be humble, be patient and trust!" ~ White Eagle
How time flies when it’s a short week because of a holiday! Here it is Friday already. Oh well, the better to celebrate the weekend. Let’s start with a note from San Diego’s RONN KILBY. He has a new title. It’s GRANDPA! And this cute little guy is Jackson, his first grandson. Jackson made his debut in San Diego on July 1, so he’s getting to be an old hand at this living thing. Congrats to Ronn, who is hinting at doing some kind of film named The Grandson at Kilby Pond.
Not only does PAUL FEY write drop-dead creative radio spots, but he writes one good subject line in his emails. This one arrived: Fun Stuff We’ve Done Lately. Of course I wanted to read it…a good tease and all. Seems the Wadio folks have been busy as can be, with spots for Starbucks (hope they provided some product for that, eh?), ESPN Apparel, Showtime’s image campaign “TV At It’s Best”, and the announcement that the WWW Family Guy section on You Tube has reached 1 million. Wow.
Think About This: (We thank the movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin for this…it’s long, but it’s so lovely) "Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two. – Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
Just a week away…the Super Bowl and all those super commercials. A whole stable of promo pros are waiting in the wings to watch and then share with one and all their opinions about what rocked or not. So you’ll want to make sure you’re checking in all next week for their insights. I can name drop, but I won’t. Until tomorrow…
Sometimes, doing the right thing will bite you you-know-where. JASON COOPER was fixing the collar of he and his wife’s new kitten…knife slipped…well, after the blood washed away, the stitches will remain for a few days. He’s now a one-handed writer/producer at WAVY in Norfolk. He’ll be back to par by the time the book begins. Shout out to his wife, Rebecca.
NATPE is kicking off … or has kicked off if you’re reading this past Monday morning. Don’t forget to pick up EXTRA EXTRA and check it out.
Think About This: “It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.” ~ Edward de Bono
Top-drawer entertainment PR shop The Lippin Group has picked up JIM BENSON as a Senior VP. He’ll be handling all the exciting clients from their LA address. Jim’s most recent venture was as co-bureau chief of BROADCASTING & CABLE Magazine and before that he did high-level communications and PR for Universal and the USA Net. Yep, he also wrote about TV for Variety. Love to hear about good people getting great jobs. Well Dunne!
Joining the Sr. VP club, Communications division, is LESLIEANNE WADE, who’s with CBS Sports. The New Jersey girl has been with The Eye Net since 1998 as a VP. She’s a grad of St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Yes, she is still calling GIL SCHWARTZ, EVP of Communications of CBS Corp and SEAN MCMANUS, President of CBS News and Sports boss. Well Dunne!
Lots of you having bad weather…stay warm and safe. Let me know if you have anything exciting to share. Tomorrow, I’ll have the latest from AMANDA CHILDS down in Charleston, one of the most gorgeous cities around. She has a new Promo Producer.
Think about this: "I have faith in the truth, in its ability to find us…. If the truth often seems elusive when we seek it directly, perhaps it is some consolation that it also relentlessly reveals itself to us in our lives, our dreams, and the stories we tell one another."

Lots going on in the Media General world, and a big thanks goes out to PAUL GAULKE for sharing the following info.
Leaving behind the Gateway to the West and the Arch of St. Louis is MIKE MINGRONI. He’s heading east to Richmond, VA to be the Art Director of Media General’s Central Graphics Undertaking. The new MGBG Central Graphics Operation. The new undertaking will provide a wide range of graphics for news, marketing, sales and special projects across the company’s 23 network-affiliated television stations. In StL, Mike was VP of graphics for ACME’s WB affil KPLR. His new boss will be JIM DOYLE, general manager of of MGCGO. Well Dunne! Mike.
Speaking of Richmond, I need to set things straight in regards to CBS6, WTVR. I confused MATT McCLAIN with the new promo manager there. Matt is the Commercial Production guy and the slot that ANDY SCHWABE left open when he started his own business is still open. And they are looking for someone great to fill it. Ideal locale puts you close to the mountains, the ocean and DC. Contact the very kind BILL ANDERSON, Director of Marketing, for more info. You would love working for him. Thanks for your help, Bill and I know you’ll find just the right person soonest.
Down in Panama City, where white sand beaches are lapped by aqua blue waves 24/7 comes more Media General news about WMBB, the ABC affil. JOSH COMBS is the new Marketing Manager, replacing MARC MORRISTON who’s now at WCNC in Charlotte. It’s actually a promotion for Josh, who began his TV career in Indianapolis in ’98 while a student. When Mr. Combs transferred to Indiana U in Bloomington, he worked at PBS affil WTIU and earned his bachelor’s in telecommunications. He’s done radio as well, DJing as well as being a reporter and weatherman. Sounds so cool. Well Dunne! Josh.
Think about this: "Resist pessimism and negative thinking both in private and national life. Think only good. ‘Think God.’ Whatever your trouble, put God, and thoughts of God, in place of that trouble. Think godly things. Even if he or she does not appear to be doing so, see that your brother-sister is striving towards God. See the world developing and growing more spiritual." ~ White Eagle
