Well Dunne for September 3, 2009

Sep 3, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne for September 3, 2009    Posted under: Bonnie Wood, Don LaFontaine, FOX Atlanta, Jim White, Joe Cipriano, Kathy Soifer, KMOX, WJLA

Let’s start with two job possibilities: 1 – Topical news promo producer at WJLA, ABC in DC. Contact BONNNIE WOOD. 2 – Writer producer at FOX Atlanta. KATHY SOIFER is who you need to email. For Bonnie, its her first initial followed by her name (no dot or anything) at wjla.com. for Kathy, it‘s her first name dot second name at foxTV.com. Good luck.

Voice man JOE CIPRIANO held a fundraiser at his Bel Air pad last night…all for the DON LAFONTAINE Voice over Lab via the SAG Actor’s Center in Hollywood. Hated to miss that one.

Got news to share? Do it via Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. I’m reachable 24/7 this way.

JIM WHITE, who I had the privilege of working with at KMOX Radio in St. Louis, passed away yesterday. He was a lovable crank who had his own way of doing things. Must have worked, since he was #1 in his time slot the entire time he was on the air at the 50,000 watt powerhouse. Not a lot like him around anymore. He brings us today’s think about this.

DC and Balto are kinda close in proximity. 40 miles per Yahoo maps. Making the switch from Balto to DC is DOMINIQUE VERDIEU, who has taken a writer producer slot with the wonderful and talented CSD STAN MELTON JR at WJLA, the ABC Allbritton in the nation’s capital. She had been writing and producing promos at Hearst’s WBAL in Baltimore. Originally from Boston, where she grabbed her diploma from Boston College, Dominique has spent time in front of the camera, in the anchor chair and reporting, across the south. Now she’s doing those great promos you see. Well Dunne! Dominique!

Bravo to the Big 3 Nets who are banding together to fight cancer. Standup2cancer.org is their website, and I encourage one and all to click and see how we can all be of service. ABC, CBS and NBC are ‘getting it’ and it’s such a good thing. The list of people in this business who haven’t won their cancer battles is long, and getting longer. So let’s jump on board and make a difference. BTW, St. Louis TV did the exact same thing – band together and put top talent from ALL the stations there – for the United Way campaign. Bravo Arch City media for leading the way.

Washington DC and Baltimore MD are as close as Beverly Hills and Thousand Oaks…roughly 40 miles. But on the east coast, it’s an entirely different TV market. Making the 40-mile switch is ANDREA LAIGN, who will be returning to Balimur (as the natives say) to rejoin family and college friends when she takes the Writer Producer slot at Heart’s NBC affil WBAL in Charm City. Andrea went to college in Maryland and is looking forward to both the bright new parts of Baltimore, which she says hasn’t eliminated the historical old feel to the city by the bay, in this case Chesapeake. She hates saying goodbye to the folks at ABC affil WJLA in DC like her boss CSD STAN MELTON, JR, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Her last day in DC will be Feb 10. Yes, even though it’s only 40 miles, she’ll be moving up I-95 and not commuting. Actually, she’s looking forward to buying a house. Once in Baltimore, she’ll be working under CSD JONATHAN KILLIAN. Well Dunne! Andrea! This is great new for you.

For those of you who are keeping track, this marks the 300th WellDunne blog. And it marks the 4th year I’ve been keeping track of ya’ll’s comings and goings, beginning with Graeme Newell’s Marketing IdeaNet. Now I’m even able to include you in the Fates & Fortunes area of BROADCASTING & CABLE’s online site as well. Thanks for your input and don’t be a stranger!

She DID it! Yes she did, and she trained to do it. Getting the perseverance award and a huge Well Dunne! is ANDREA LAIGN, promo writer-producer extraordinaire at Albritton’s ABC affil WJLA. Ms. Andrea, aka #27635, ran in and finished the Washington, DC Marine Corps Marathon and 10K run. Yep, that definitely puts her off the Couch Potato list. Andrea is the one in the green shorts in the picture. Way to go, Girl! And she writes and produces as good as she runs marathons. Hey, STAN MELTON JR…ya got a good one there.

Getting an upgrade at FOX Sports and FSN is ROBERT GOTTLIEB, who is now SVP/Creative Director for Marketing and On-Air Promotions. He’s been with the company since 2000, and is calling ERIK MARKGRAF, EVP, FOX Sports Marketing.

Interesting read from the LA TIMES about just what lies ahead for TV. Nobody knows….click here.
