Seeing as there’s already snow in many markets, which seems to be ahead of most schedules, one thinks of warmer climes where ice is in glasses not on steps or roads. Which leads to the news that the long-unfilled Marketing Director slot at ABC in Tampa-St. Pete has been filled, affording ANDREW CALIENDO a winter of palm trees sans DeIcer. He’s transitioning from WCNC in Charlotte to WTSP, keeping the same title. Mr. C has lived in both ocean-side locales as well as deserts, having been promo head at KVIA in El Paso, Tucson, Phoenix and Birmingham. He also was News Promo Manager for KABC in LA, whose fire coverage was enhanced with technology that showed street names. Wow. It was so impressive. But back to the subject – Well Dunne! Andrew.
The day was ideal for Well Dunne!’s DENA YASNER’s coverage of the Phoenix Veteran’s Day Parade. She loves this assignment and shines in so many ways. You should call on her for smooth reads and projects.

The movie Uncle Buck…big favorite, right? Absolutely. Remember the high school where Buck drops off his very embarrassed niece? That’s New Trier High in Winnetka, IL and it’s where ANDREW CALIENDO went. Fast forward to now, and with New Trier far behind him,he’s going to Charlotte to fill the long-vacant Creative Services Director slot at Tegna’s WCNC, NBC in the Queen City. He’ll be making the switch from LIN/Media General’s WIAT in Birmingham. Andrew’s got a great background in TV marketing, starting as Creative Services Manager at KVIA in El Paso. He went to Meredith’s KPHO in Phoenix and would return there as Promo Manager. Stops along the way include Los Angeles’ KABC as News Promo Manager and CSD at KVOA in Tucson. He’s on the Ones To Watch List, so expect to see some exciting work on air in NC beginning in late June. He’ll be in Vegas at PROMAX, so look him up to say a Big Well Dunne! Andrew.

Major kudos, gold stars and Well Dunne! to NBC TV Network. They send an email to those who apply for jobs via their website. Wow…a communication company that communicates. How bout that! Making candidates feel wanted, even if they don’t get any further than sending in their info. This is a simple, inexpensive (read mainly free) way to improve the image of your company. Do it, as Nike says. There’s really no reason not to.

It’s Showtime…to quote the late, great Bob Fosse. Another one to quote Mr. F is CRAIG PLATT who is now SVP of Creative Advertising for Showtime Networks. He comes over from the same title at mOcean (such a clever name) and from LA where he also a VP and Producer at Trailer Park and did publicity and marketing for Warners. He’s a Tulane grad. Didn’t find out if he’s headed to NYC, whch would be cool since he’s a Jersey guy. Well Dunne! Craig.
Also at Showtime comes word that EMILY GOULD has been upped to SVP of Consumer Marketing. Ms. Emily also hails from Jersey and at one time worked doing digital marketing for the US Tennis Association. Very cool. Well Dunne! Emily.

This has been the roughest month…hats off to all the folks who have had to battle snow as tall as houses, ill health made worse by the winter, loss and even odd (I mean really odd) events that go without notation. It’s the last week of the month…let’s all hold on and come March, we’ll see what excitement can make us smile again.

The highway between Phoenix and Tucson is well traveled. The 116 mile trip seems further than it sounds (think traffic and mountains) but ANDREW CALIENDO will not only be taking it when he wants, not because he has to. Andrew has taken the Promotion Manager slot at CBS affil KPHO in Phoenix. He’s going to be working with CSD MATT HYATT and my favorite Art Director CHRIS AYERS. Andrew’s been down wrangling the creative at KVOA, the NBC affiliate in Tucson. The Phoenix slot will be like old home week for Mr. C…he once worked there writing and producing. Well Dunne! Andrew.
Get a lot of rest this weekend. Monday will be the start of the new season, what with Martha Stewart unpacking for her new slot at Hallmark Channel (I wish Martha would help me move…I bet she never breaks anything and isn’t one of those people who ends up with boxes that never get opened) and Oprah kicking off her last season. There’s tons more, of course, so grab your vitamins and realize now is indeed the time to rationalize buying that 72 inch hi-def.

From the bayou to the desert…word from NBC affil KVOA Tucsan is that CSD ANDREW CALIENDO has hired not one but two writer producer types. July 3 is SHORTY BACON’s birthday. July 4th is UNCLE SAM’s birthday. This summer is flying by too quickly, so don’t look for another posting until mid next week. Everybody take some time and enjoy. I suggest one rediscover the joys of lightening bugs.
