Let’s make a list of things about living in the desert, or more precisely in Phoenix. 1 – Saguaro cactus – always waving hello. 2 – Sunsets so beautiful they defy description 3 – no humidity 4 – Sunshine galore 5 – The List. Now let’s make a list of things SUZANNE STONEFIELD and the desert, more precisely Phoenix, have in common. 1 – likes Saguaro cactus. 2 – likes sunsets 3 – likes a dry heat 4 – not adverse to sunshine 5 – newest promo writer producer for The List. Ms. Suzanne is heading west to join the team at Scripps’ The List, where she’ll be a lovely addition to the station-savvy creatives like LAUREL PORTIE and BRANDT DOTSON. Suzanne is departing the writer producer slot at Tegna’s WTSP, which is in another amazingly ideal market, Tampa. A New Hampshire native, she’s been lucky enough to follow a career path that includes promoting in Myrtle Beach, Portland Maine and Seattle. The crystal ball sees many happy days ahead, in the sunshine, waving at some cactus, poolside. Well Dunne! Suzanne.

Have you seen the brilliant 7 rainy days in a row weather forecast done on BBC Radio? I mean, who wouldn’t love this as a weather forecast? Nobody. Anybody have a weather person with this kind of cool?

Desert living is great…hot dry air, spectacular sunrises and sets, cacti. Phoenix is particularly excellent; surrounded by mountains and full of art, cuisine, shopping and talented people. The next new talent in the Valley of the Sun isn’t exactly new…he lived there in the past and is excited to return, not just to family but to a terrific new job. The Welcome Back matt is out for BRANDT DOTSON who is going to work for Scripps’ nationally syndicated The List. Yes, he’s going to be writing and producing promos, and he’s quite good at it. For the last year or so, he’s been in Tulsa at KJRH. Before that he honed his craft in Sacramento’s Hearst station as well as in Tucson. He’ll be working with the uber-talented ED ROTH so all kind of fireworks are on the horizon. Big Well Dunne! Brandt. Hope your oral surgery went well.

All the best wishes in the world going out to promo lady GAYLE GLUCK who just got engaged. The founder of Our Gang Productions is so happy, you can feel her smile through the pixels.

Happy Leap Day! Anybody have any specific way they’re spending their extra day this year??

BRANDT DOTSON is hitting the road, making his transition from Sacramento to Albuquerque an adventure of friends, family, and tasty tacos. Brandt is heading to his new slot as Sr. Writer Producer in Albuquerque. The Tucson native is thrilled to be getting back to the high desert (Albuquerque is a few feet short of officially being a mile high). His sinuses will be particularly happy. Mr. D has worked in Phoenix, Raleigh and at Hearst’s NBC affil in the Cali capital. With his last day on the horizon, he’s both sad and glad…one of those wonderful blends of human emotions. He’s going to miss the great folks at KCRA but at the same time, he’s very excited about life in Enchanting New Mexico. Well Dunne! Brandt.

Job Alert – KCRA is looking to replace Brandt.

Job Alert – WESH needs a top notch first class marketing writer producer. Line up in Orlando.

Job Alert – Promotion Supervisor at WREX in Rockford IL

Rats – missed National Pancake Day. Shout out to WNCN CSD STEVE PATRICK. He knows why.

An App to tell you what to watch on TV? My goodness, isn’t that what promo people are supposed to be doing?

This is a nice read…excellent way to start a day when you don’t feel very thrilled to be starting another day.

Today is the first day on a new job for BILL MUSHRUSH. He’s the new CSD at CBS affil KKTV in gorgeous Colorado Springs. Bill’s moving west from his former slot at ABC affil WLNE in Providence. Yeah, Colorado Springs at the foot of Pikes Peak wins that contest, imo. Many of you remember Bill from his time at NBC Net out of NYC and TechTV out of San Francisco. Congrats Bill! Well Dunne!

This from writer producer BRANDT DOTSON of NBC affil KCRA in Sacramento: Brandt’s five rules of marketing.
1) Nobody cares about your product. Really…they don’t. Don’t get offended, just make them care. That’s what’s marketing is for

2) Don’t sell your product, sell an emotion. Make an emotional connection with your customer, then empower them. This establishes trust and creates an emotional bond between you and your customer.

3) Back up your message with fact… not lies. Don’t hype what’s false. Spotlight what’s true

4) Keep your message simple, concise, and easy to follow. Don’t waste your customer’s time. Don’t be clever, don’t be cryptic, and nobody will be impressed with your puns, so leave them out!

5) ONLY HAVE ONE MESSAGE! If you try to cram several selling points into your marketing message, then people will just be confused or uninterested. Multiple thoughts just clutter your message, and then your message is lost. Which defeats the whole purpose of why you’re marketing to begin with.

And it’s really that simple. But sadly, most people don’t follow any of these rules because everybody thinks they know better. And that’s why they fail.

Get a lot of questions about “life after TV” or ways to supplement income. WNCN GM BARRY LEFFLER, one time promo pro from Miami and NBC Net, has forged a path that sounds great.

Say adieu to GOURMET Magazine. What a pity…I believe Gourmet sparked my interest in wanting to cook well. Hate to start Monday that way….

Think About This: "When you are on a journey, it is certainly helpful to know where you are going or at least the general direction in which you are moving, but don’t forget: the only thing that is ultimately real about your journey is the step that you are taking at this moment.
