They’re all safe….the Well Dunne! Talent voices that live and work in Mexico City. LILIANA DE MIGUEL, who not only announces but also translates (take note you NBC folks who have the Spanish side to deal with) had to walk 6 miles home, but her place was OK, if not glass-less. The windows in DF were major victims. CHRIS SMITH had a duble whammy….the quake shook things up but didn’t do major damage in Mexico. However, he lives part time in Houston, and there was flooding. When the quake hit, he reported the very first piece on CNN out of Mexico in English that day… in front of the fallen General Hospital. Both are very grateful. Well Dunne!
Talk about a perfect day. Take picture perfect LA weather…mix in the amazing GEORGIA SCOTT and DENNIS FITCH of The Agency…add a lunch of great food but better conversation and ideas…and that, my friends, is why one of us is very happy.

It takes a lot of guts to bet on your own talents. And there’s nothing more rewarding, even when the rewards can be a bit tight monetarily. Creatives in entertainment marketing have all the know-how, verve and knowledge to make an amazing impact on their own. The latest intrepid soul to shake things up is BRAD CRUM, now doing business under his own banner: Brad Crum Creative. He’s got it goin’ on in all mediums, so hit him up for work that will definitely work. He will, indeed, miss the good folks at FOX DC where he’s been promoting both their stations. Brad’s background includes time at CBS Network in LA. Yeah, he’s that good. Well Dunne! Brad.
Cinco de Mayo…what a great excuse to bring attention to two of the best Spanish/English voice talents you could use….Liliana de Miguel, who lives in Mexico City and translates like someone who works at the University, which she does….and Chris Smith who lives in Houston AND DF (which is how the folks in Mexico City refer to themselves). Don’t get stung with bad talent or bad translations. Happy Cinco…or as MANNY DE LA ROSA would say, Cinco de Manny!
Our own Promo Cowboy, BARRY FITZSIMMONS, who is amazing on so many creative levels, has finally gotten his marketing Podcast going (someone writing this might be a guest one day….) and you should check it out. Click here. And it’s a good one with BILL HARTNETT…another major favorite!
Have you noticed the A-listers who are voicing spots…not appearing on camera, but voicing? God bless Ken Levine, one of my favorite writers (imdb him) and his take on why this is NOT a good idea and why you need to rethink voice choices. Of course, you should think Well Dunne! first, but you know that already because you’re fabulous….

USA Network named a new marketing honcho. Congrats to SANDRA SCHRON, whose title is now VP Production, under which marketing and digital plus brand strategy will fall. She’s been upped from her previous post of director of production on-air, marketing division. A grad of St. Francis College, she has a background in ops and marketing, with successful stints at Lifetime and SyFy (she played a big part in that rebrand). Based in NYC, Sandra is also a member of TV Diva Network Alliance. That sounds like way too much fun. Well Dunne! Sandra.
Let’s see a show of hands…how many have watched the TV holiday classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? Wow..a lot of you. Sadly, the voice of Rudolph has died. That voice was done by Billie Mae Richards who was 88.
RAB Radio Show is sold out. Great news. So for those going, while you’re there, don’t miss what promises to be the most fun session (and informative to boot) called Where are the Writers? Hosted by Ron Chapman, who I’ve listened to in Dallas and loved, the panel is legendary – Dick Orkin of Radio Ranch, Chris Smith of The Richard Group and Well Dunne! Talent’s own legend, MARK DRISCOLL.
The LATIMES takes on that out-in-the-open secret of TV News stories being income generating segments. Obviously, not at stations where trust is an issue.
Think About It: "I am in between stories. The old one is gone, and the new one is just beginning to take shape. When we already have a story we are heavily identified with, whether we appear to like this story or not, it is difficult to stay awake, to watch our thoughts and feelings without letting them dictate our actions. A clear story about who we are makes it hard to wait and let our actions arise from the deep and open emptiness of experiencing who we are right now, makes it difficult to allow actions to arise that may be inconsistent with how our story says we should move." ~ Oriah Mountain Dreamer
That great open Creative slot in Denver is filled. Taking the title Director of Marketing and Creative Services at the Tribune combo in the mile high city is native Californian ERIK CANDIANI. He’s at KDVR FOX and KWGN CW from his slot doing creative things at Los Angeles’ KTLA. Erik loves LA but is excited about all the possibilities Denver is offering. Well Dunne! Erik.
JOB ALERT! For the artists amongst us – The Golf Channel is looking for Director of On-Air Graphics. Get to live in Florida and everything. Orlando actually. Go to the Golf Channel site and click away.
JOB ALERT! But only for the bilingual Spanish-English peeps. BBC in Miami needs a Creative Services Director. And I want that person to hire the wonderful Well Dunne! bilingual voices, CHRIS SMITH and RICCARDO PIROTTI (who just happens to live in the Miami area, gracias.)
ESPN’s got a great, attention-getting yet sly spot. Arnold Palmer is at some kind of food court and goes back and forth between the iced tea and lemonade to fill his glass. You gotta see it…really nice.
MY BAD…I misspelled STEPHEN ARNOLD’s name last time. I apologize and hope you all listen for his new musical stylings done for The Golf Channel.
The cartoonist who draws Dilbert has a blog. And he has some fun insight into listening. Check it out here.

Yesterday, the news was about Food Network’s MIKE SMITH getting the boot upstairs to GM for the upcoming Cooking Channel. Now comes word that another promo pro, BRAD MOSES, will be GM of Media General’s WNCN, Raleigh-Durham’s NBC affiliate. Brad has already been in a GM slot –in gorgeous Savannah, GA at another Media General NBC affil, WSAV. Among the great stations where Brad has done creative work is WFLA in Tampa, WTVG in Toledo and Chicago’s WLS. Well Dunne! Brad. You’ll love the Triangle.
Looking for a new job (and so many of you are, come on…admit it)…here’s a new take on it from a rocker.
Well Dunne Talent’s CHRIS SMITH is back in Mexico City for a bit. He’s a native Spanish and English speaker, dividing his time between the capital city south of the border and Houston. But he’s still ready to translate and make your copy work in either language.
Think About This: "When we find ourselves looking at the world and saying, ‘There’s nothing out there for me,’ we should probably also look into our hearts and ask, ‘If there’s nothing out there, is there anything in here?’ We need to examine our inner dialogue to discover where we might be blocking the conscious energy flow, then remove the ego, step out of the way, and let the fire of the soul shine through us." ~ Deepak Chopra
