In lieu of taking Sunday off and not writing, the mere fact that the date comes along just every 4 years prompted this missive. Post Oscars. It’s Leap Day. February 29. So much fun…looks odd in its own way. Maybe things for all of us will be in alignment…didn’t they seem rather out of sorts? Happy February 29th to one and all.

There are some very tired folks in the creative services departments of Capital’s WRAL and Media General’s WNCN in Raleigh. While you were watching some very clever Oscar tie-in commercials from Kohl’s and McDonalds, they swapped nets – WRAL now NBC and NCN now CBS. If you have never been involved in a network affiliate change, well, it’s the marathon of marketing. Let’s hear a big Well Dunne! for all the people who made it happen, with a particular Well Dunne! going to CSD KRISTEN BYRUM at NCN and CSD SHELLY SMITH LESLIE at RAL. Ladies, great jobs.

CLYDE BECKER loves Denver and is staying put with his new job in Multi-Media for the Media News Group. Well Dunne! Clyde.

Job Alert – Director Press & Comunications TV Land Santa Monica CA job 2015-2660

Anything that angers you is teaching you forgiveness and compassion. Anything that has power over you is teaching you how to take your power back. Anything you hate is teaching you unconditional love. Anything you fear is teaching you courage to overcome your fear. Anything you can’t control is teaching you how to let go.”  ~  Collective Evolution

CLYDE BECKER loves the Rocky Mountains. They’re pretty impressive, indeed. So is Clyde’s new job as Creative Services Director of Scripps’ ABC affiliate in the Mile High City, KMGH.  He’ll be returning to Denver where he once headed up the creative efforts of FOX affil KDVR. Along the way Clyde was at Reelz Channel in Albuquerque and WVEC in Norfolk/Hampton Roads. Looks like he’ll be taking I-70 West from Indianapolis where he has been CSD at the Dispatch NBC affil WTHR for the last few years. Excellent news Clyde. Well Dunne!

How exciting is this… MARIAN MASSARO is announcing the The Critics Choice Television Awards on Thursday night from the Beverly Hilton.  You can catch it on The CW…check your own time and locale. But Just Do It! You’ll love Ms. Marian! She gets a big Well Dunne!

Think About This:  “It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready for anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.”  ~ Hugh Laurie, actor and author (Thanks Dani Dudek)

It was a beautiful day in Indianapolis on Wednesday. A balmy 68 even with a cloud cover. Such was the weather for CLYDE BECKER, who is starting his third week as Creative Services Director at WTHR, the Dispatch NBC affiliate in the Hoosier State capital. He’s making the move east from Albuquerque, where he was heading up on-air promotions at Reelz Channel. Lots of you know him from his days at KDVR in Denver. So glad to hear all is well. A big Well Dunne! to you Clyde.

You need to know about Kickstarter. Shout out to KOB’s VINCE GARPARICH who told me about this a while ago.

Leaving TV is something most everyone has thought of…some more than others and on some days more than others, too. If you can find a great slot that still uses the talents and skills TV promotion supplies, great. Such is the case with MATT HYATT, one of my faves who hails from St. Louis.  He’s been Creative Services Director at Meredith’s CBS affil, KPHO in Phoenix. Matt is one lucky guy…he’s going to Intel and staying in the Valley of the Sun, too.  All that creativity is going to be used for the internal Intel projects. TV will miss Matt, but he gets a big ol’ Well Dunne!

Job Alert – Matt’s CSD slot at KPHO.

Insight into HBO’s True Blood success in marketing. They failed to mention the shirtless males, which is quite a draw…but that could just be a personal thing.

Who writes the news headlines on Yahoo. PLEASE take a class in writing. PLEASE.

Pitch perfect…that’s the way it’s turned out for SERGIO COMACHO, who is moving to the Reelz Channel right this very minute…he starts Monday at the movie-centric cable net. Sergio eats, lives and drinks film, so his new slot at Art Director will be right down his alley. A San Antonio native and UT Longhorn, Sergio is giving up his Art Director position at WHDH, Sunbeam’s NBC affil in Boston. Along the way, Sergio has worked as Sr. Designer at WISH in Indianapolis as well as Graphic Designer at KSAT in his hometown. That’s just the TV side of him. He’s done some amazing work in the film biz early on, directing music videos as well as working with George Lopez. Best of all, he’s a still photographer who can’t wait to train his lens on the gorgeous mountains in New Mexico. Sergio will be working with CLYDE BECKER. Well Dunne! Sergio!

Job Alert – BILL ANDERSON, the News Director of Local TV’s WTVR, CBS in Richmond, VA let me know they’ve just posted a Marketing Director slot. The job reports to GM Stephen Hayes.

The CNN promo campaign taking direct aim at FOX News and MSNBC is getting a lot of press. Love the music. Thoughts?

Robert Downey Jr just got a voice gig. He’s going to be the sound of Mr. Peanut, the debonair Planters Nut character.

Think About This: "So often we try to gird ourselves to face a harsh and difficult world when we might instead gentle both ourselves and our world just by slowing down.  …We could take a cue from music here: ‘Rest’ is musical term for a pause between flurries of notes. Without that tiny pause, the torrent of notes can be overwhelming. Without a rest in our lives, the torrent of our lives can be the same" ~ Julia Cameron

CLYDE BECKER is heading back west. He’s been named head of on-air promos for The Reelz Channel, TV About Movies. He’ll be vacating his office at Belo’s ABC affil WVEC in the gorgeous Hampton Roads area of the Virginia seacoast and heading for the Land of Enchantment. Reelz is in Albuquerque. Clyde won’t be deterred by the snowy landscape between him and the new job – he spent years at Tribune’s FOX affil, KDVR, in Denver. Besides, he won’t be making the move until the first of the month…time for all that snow to melt away. Well Dunne! Clyde. Get ready to answer the question: red or green. Chile is like a religion in New Mexico.

He’s been there cranking out the promos, but now the Creative Services Director title is official for ANDREW CALLIENDO at Tucson’s KVOA. He’s looking for a writer/producer, and Tucson is one fab town. Think about it. Well Dunne! Andrew.
