Growing up in the Midwest near St. Louis offered many insightful life lessons. One was experiencing all four seasons. In the depths of winter, nothing was more enticing than the thought of sun shining through palm trees in Florida. The Cardinals had their spring training camp in St. Pete, and the stands were full of baseball fans who rather gleefully basked in the warmth while commenting on the frigid temps back home. Some of the most fervent winter avoiders were able to work and live in the Sunshine State, and one such Midwesterner is GAYLE BEATTY. Ms. Gayle is heading to Orlando, where she’ll be working with VP Creative CHRIS FRIEDRICHS at Fox’s WOFL as a writer producer for the combo stations, WRBW and WOGX. Gayle is no stranger to Florida – she’s worked for TV operations in Sarasota at WWSB where she was CSD as well as in Tampa where she was Promo Manager for WFTX, the Scripps’ ABC. The SIU Carbondale grad got her start in TV at KSNW in Wichita as Marketing Coordinator and Promo Producer and was lucky to work with DALE LOCKETT at KHOU in Houston. She’ll be celebrating a Disney Christmas for sure. Well Dunne! Gayle.

Think About This: Hold on to what is good, even if it’s a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe, even if it’s a tree that stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do, even if it’s a long way from here. Hold on to your life, even if it’s easier to let go. Hold on to my hand, even if I’ve gone away from you. ~ Pueblo Indian Prayer
What would bring about vacation interruptus? A new major move in market #2, which happened thus causing VI. And bringing about the news that lovely ADRIANNE ANDERSON has been tapped to be head of Creative Services for LA’s KTLA. She’s a VP in fact. Sweet. The Hofstra grad has held some pretty impressive titles, like Director of Design and Promotion for WCAU in Philly, then Director of Creative Services for KYW in the city of brotherly love. She moved to LA to be VP of Creative Services for the FOX Television Stations then added VP Marketing Telepictures and Warner Bros TV. Now she’s taking MARSHALL HITES old slot now that he’s head honcho for the entire Tribune chain creative efforts. A big Well Dunne! Adrianne.
Whew…that was close. KHOU’s DALE LOCKETT sent a picture showing the horrible Houston flood waters nearly lapping at the station’s front door. They’re located near a bayou. Sidebar: It’s so upsetting to see such devastation and recognize the places.

DALE LOCKETT is one of those guys that makes the business of TV marketing a better one. Not because he is always telling you about his latest achievement, but because he exhibits a laundry list of traits that make him a good person. He recognizes possibilities (in ideas and in people) and is generous with his knowledge and time. No wonder Dale, who is Director of Creative Services at Gannett’s KHOU in Houston, was recently honored by the North Houston Frontiers Club Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award. It was a very classy event, and a very classy speech by Dale. Well Dunne!

Think About This: On being asked why she chose the things in her home, Maira Kalman replied: “The pieces that I chose were based on one thing only – a gasp of DELIGHT. Isn’t that the only way to curate a life? To live among things that make you gasp with delight?"

The Sacramento-Phoenix connection is pretty strong. Two Phoenix Marketing Directors come direct from Cali’s capital…plus one GM, and now BOBBY RIGG is part of the Sacto Crowd. Mr Bobby is the new Marketing Manager for Scripp’s syndicated show, THE LIST, which launches Sept 17 across the USA. Very exciting. Bobby comes out of Houston’s KHOU where he was Sr. Writer Producer for CSD DALE LOCKETT at the Belo-owned CBS affil. The Sacramento connection lies with his work at Hearst’s KCRA. He started his TV marketing career at KZTV, the CBS affiliate in beautiful Corpus Christi. The University of Houston grad also attended UT in Austin. Well Dunne! Bobby.

Well Dunne! to KHOU’s DALE LOCKETT. He’s been promoted and had his duties – and title – expanded. Dale is now Director of Creative Services and Community Marketing. If you don’t know Dale, that’s a shame. He’s one of the really good – and totally creative – guys.

Even those non-weather-heads amongst us have heard what a tough winter they’ve had so far in Alaska. Snow so deep people get out of their houses via upstairs windows. Yeah, really. So, with that in mind, it makes perfect sense that KENT KAY would choose this very moment to decamp The Last Frontier and land in the gorgeous Palm Springs desert. Sure, he’s been up at WITI in Milwaukee but its none too warm there. Let’s hear it for Kent, who is now Creative Services Director of KESQ, KDFX and KSWQ, the ABC, FOX and CW affiliates in Palm Springs. Kent, who grew up in Alaska, hasn’t always been living there. He’s been freelancing as well as having been Executive Producer Client Services and Local Programming at Belo’s CBS affil KHOU in Houston. Shout out to wonderful DALE LOCKETT. Kent has also been a promo producer and commercial producer in Vegas at ABC KTNV in Vegas. Shout out to JIM KOONCE. Kent is an amazing photographer and will no doubt find ways to show off the Palm Springs area that will beg for framing, as well as draw eyeballs to his stations. Well Dunne! Kent.
