Seeing as there’s already snow in many markets, which seems to be ahead of most schedules, one thinks of warmer climes where ice is in glasses not on steps or roads. Which leads to the news that the long-unfilled Marketing Director slot at ABC in Tampa-St. Pete  has been filled, affording ANDREW CALIENDO a winter of palm trees sans DeIcer. He’s transitioning from WCNC in Charlotte to WTSP, keeping the same title.  Mr. C has lived in both ocean-side locales as well as deserts, having been promo head at KVIA in El Paso, Tucson, Phoenix and Birmingham. He also was News Promo Manager for KABC in LA, whose fire coverage was enhanced with technology that showed street names. Wow. It was so impressive. But back to the subject – Well Dunne! Andrew.

The day was ideal for Well Dunne!’s DENA YASNER’s coverage of the Phoenix Veteran’s Day Parade. She loves this assignment and shines in so many ways.  You should call on her for smooth reads and projects.

The Lion King explains it all. It’s a circle of life. Back in the early days of TV, Ben Casey started with a simple chalkboard graphic of man, woman, birth, death, infinity. That’s it. All the rest are details. All the changes, the heartbreak, the love and tears…all the saying goodbye and saying hello, starting fresh and going into pre-programmed mode. It’s all the circle of life. This blog (someone get a new name puhLEASE) is about that, and you need to know that you are thanked, valued and even cherished for any time and or attention spent here.

Now a few quick catch-ups: Well Dunne! to RILEY SEXTON who traded her Manager, Platform and Affiliate Marketing slot for Associate Director of Affiliate Marketing for Fox Broadcasting Company in LA. The SMU grad did some great stuff for KMSP in Minneapolis before heading west.

Condolences to Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER and her significant other LOREN. Loren’s mother passed this week. Loren is the kind of son we all hope our sons will be.

GM CURTIS MILES at WAOW in Wausau has a new CSD, namely KRISTI SCHREIBER, a native Wausan (is that correct…Wausan?) who is totally slammed with the new job. But Well Dunne! Kristi.

Think About This:  “Be kind and merciful. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better
and happier. Be a loving expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting. To children, to the poor, to all who suffer and are lonely, give always a happy smile. Give them not only your care, but your heart.”  ~ Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Whenever there’s news out of ABC Network, it almost seems as if the news is done in alphabetical order. It isn’t of course, but the news today is from ABC. A promotion. JOHN ROUSE is now Executive Vice President of Affiliate Relations and Marketing of the alphabet net. Formerly the Senior VP, the USC grad started at KNBC doing sales and joined Disney after being an AE for MGM/UE. Lots of initials. Great guy. Sing along to the tune of the Mickey Mouse Club farewell song: Now it’s time to say Well Dunne to John at ABC. E-V-P…A-B-C…R-o-u-s-e.”

Job Alert – KLAS, in Vegas (located just off The Strip – really…talk about location!) has a wonderful CSD. HENRY VASQUEZ. He’s on the hunt for a Senior Writer Producer and you actually need to consider what an opportunity that is. As they say on Game of Thrones….winter is coming. Is there a better place for wintering than Vegas? Or more fun than KLAS?

Wednesday is Veteran’s Day, and if you’re lucky enough to be in the Valley of the Sun, be sure to check out Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER who is announcing the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade. It starts at 11 on North Central at Montebello then turns on Camelback east to 7th then south to Indian School. Come on out and show these men and women you are grateful for their service. And say hi to Dena…she’s a doll.

It’s been a year since Calder Sloan was heartbreakingly killed in a swimming pool accident. Calder was the 7 year old son of C2 Media’s CHRIS SLOAN, who many of you know from his outstanding creative marketing and programming background as President, Owner and Executive Producer of his Miami-based company. Chris and his family have shown their true inner resolve since, and just this last weekend, the Miami Children’s Museum dedicated an exhibit to Calder and his brother Caleb. The story of the new exhibition from NBC Miami is here – click. Calder was Mr. Awesome, and if you aren’t aware of the outpouring of support from across the globe for him, you should take a moment and research it. The Sloans are leading the fight to get a bill past the Florida legislature mandating upgrades to the safety of swimming pool electricity. They exhibit grace under the most daunting of life’s events. Wishing them a Well Dunne! seems quite inadequate in comparison. Shalom.

Job Alert – Producer Editor WXIA Atlanta

Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER switched it up, trading desert for island paradise with a week long sojourn in Hawaii. On Waikiki, spotted the production of Hawaii Five-O and, if the editors are as good as they have been in the past, Dena might even be in a scene in a future airing. Love the Aloha State and love Ms. Dena as well.

Think About This:  "But sometimes, unexpectedly, a quiet moment finds us and we drop down into the life we have beneath all the rushing and the trying and the endless daily details, sinking into the fertile soil of the sometimes neglected inner life, where the seeds of remembering what matters are planted. What comes from that place, when we give it half a chance, flowers in our lives and the world, creating unexpected changes in the direction of our journey and offering unanticipated blessings to us and those around us." ~ Oriah Mountain Dreamer

GARY WOLVERTON is headed to West Virginia where he’ll be heading up the marketing efforts for WCHS/WVAH, the ABC/FOX duop in the Charleston/Huntington ADI. Well, he’s actually headed to be the permanent Creative Services Director; he filled in since March. Done a super job – but you knew that already. Gary’s been CSD at Birmingham’s WIAT, WHNS Fox Carolina in Greenville, SC, as well as Marketing Director of WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi. He’s a southern gentleman who will add sparkle and zip to his new station. Well Dunne! Gary.

In the Phoenix area? Then don’t miss out on Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER who is announcing the City of Phoenix’s Veteran’s Day Parade. Check her out at Camelback just west of 7th. She’s the pretty one with the great voice!

Getting an honor that puts her next to Johnny Carson, Tom Brokaw and Dick Cavett is the one and only LYNNE GRASZ. NY based Lynne is now President and Board Chair of the National School  Foundation Association and come August 13, she’ll be honored with an induction into the Nebraska Broadcasters “Hall of Fame”. Lynne has a stellar track record in the TV marketing world, beginning as CSD of KMOX TV (now KMOV) which was owned by CBS, which promoted her o Director of Comunication for eight divisions of their in the broadcast group. That led to being Executive Director of the Television Information Office  where she visited over 600 stations, among other good works. From here she became Executive Director of PROMAX International and then ED of BDA, growing membership in both. When the two became PROMAX / BDA she spent four more years heading up the growing organization. She’s got an amazing background and has done so many important things, this write up seems quite inadequate. And her PR skils…wow. She even introduced the talented DENA YASNER to Well Dunne! So grab the confetti, get out your celebratory horns and let’s hear it for Lynne. Well Dunne! my dear.

Yes, he’s trading Chicago for Denver and leaving Weigel Broadcasting where he was Network Creative Leader for MeTV Network and Movies! Garth’s background includes heading creative at Fox Cable Nets, CBC TV in Toronto and even the Playboy Channel. Plus other juicy film marketing assignments. He’ll be loving Colorado in the spring. This country seems to define itself by what body of water is nearest. The Atlantic means the east coast….the Gulf refers to the southern states which get to have more shrimp than the rest of us…the Mississippi divides us in half…and the Pacific calls out to come across the vast empty west and watch sunsets in the land of opportunity. Heading from the banks of the Mississippi (metaphorically speaking) to the golden west is JOEL FLOWERS, who is embarking on a trek from Sikeston, MO to Thousand Palms, CA, where Mr. Flowers will be hitting the world of TV marketing as a writer producer for CSD KENT KAY at KESQ. The University of Tennessee at Martin grad has been polishing his marketing craft working in radio, where deadlines and marketing messages are the same as TV. In his new job, Joel will be reunited with his old radio on-air co-host, SALLY SAPUTO; the two of them were a hot item and from the sound of things, they will continue to be for News-Press & Gazette Co’s operations. Well Dunne! and safe travels Joel. Don’t fall over when you see the price of petrol in Needles.

Congrats and Well Dunne! to WKYC’s MICKI BYRNES with her new title VP/Station Manager at  Gannett-owned NBC affil..  She’s a creative – been a marketing pro in Boston, Atlanta and San Francisco as well as most recently VP of Advertising and Promotion in Cleveland.  Always loved her work and working with her on the NBC Promo Board. She also did a campaign that still ranks as one of my favorites ever.

Thoughts and prayers going out to Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER‘s father recovering from heart surgery.

Shout out to ROGER MARONI, who’s working with AJ WARREN on The Anderson Cooper Show. Roger started his TV career down in San Antonio, clutching his Trinity degree. He’s done his magic for for Martha Stewart and Jane Pauley and, well, more to come on Roger. Now, back to the Cardinals in the World Series!

They’re sending her a key and if it fits, which will be shared with the folks at the Cardinals v Steelers game Sunday in Glendale (AZ), Dena will be in need of a new keychain to go with the new wheels. Fingers crossed…

Bidding adieu to ABC in the Bay Area is MISSY CRAWFORD.  Her Creative Services Director slot is already listed on the KGO site (Job Alert!) and rumor has it that she’s headed down the peninsula to NBC’s KNTV to do promo. But it’s only a rumor…haven’t been able to hook up with Missy yet. Perhaps a temporary Well Dunne! is best in this case but it’s still sincere and excited…

The gorgeous picture is from Brazil, where Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER was spending some quality time. This is the view from her balcony, which is very different from her Scottsdale view. She’s now back and ready to give your projects that special sumin’ sumin’.

All you PROMAXers assembled in Vegas. Don’t forget to meet up with KNTV’s JIM KOONCE, who is adding a title to his CSD one…he’s stringing for this very blog. His snaps will be posted when they arrive. Have a blast and good luck in the casinos.

Dee-troit City’s FOX affil has added MIKE CARLONI to their creative team. Actually, that should read RE-added Mike, who got stuck in that “Downsizing” thing awhile back at the station. Mike is officially writing and producing now (and no doubt editing) for KEITH STIRONEK in Motor City. This is a very exciting event – his rehiring has made Keith very happy, excited and confident about his team. Well Dunne! Mike.

CSD LOWELL BRIGGS sent word that KURT DAVIS has been hard at work for him as a Preditor. We’re talking about NBC’s WVIT in Connecticut. Thanks Lowell and Well Dunne! Kurt.
