Denver and San Diego seem like very different places with little in common. Where Denver, the Mile High city, boasts winter sports and incredible mountains, San Diego is Oceanside with the best climate in the country. Yet both are vibrant, young-people towns swimming in high tech and entrepreneurs. They’re also two markets that JILLIAN OPPEGARD has on her resume, what with her new job and all. The end of February, Jillian is going to KGTV, the Scripps ABC operation in SD to be the Marketing Manager. She’s been in Denver at CBS’s KCNC as Senior Creative Services Producer and considers Centennial, Colorado home, even though she was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She is gonna love working with KGTV’s PHIL KRAFT – they both report to LEILA STILLWELL. Thanks to Marshall Advertising’s LAUREN RIDGLEY for the scoop. Big Well Dunne! Jillian.
Well Dunne! to the entire WDAM TV family who did Pine Belt Strong, a full day telethon to raise money for the victims of the devastating tornadoes that hit the Hattisburg, Laurel Mississippi area. Marketing Director ERIK SNELL announced they raised $200,000 as of 8 pm (when this was written) but there’s still three hours to go. Well Dunne! generous and caring Mississippi citizens.
It’s Groundhog Day as you know, so, if you haven’t decided to make it a great day, then at least muddle through and watch Bill Murray so you can lighten up.

Think About This: “There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.” ― John Lennon

LAUREN RIDGLEY does not let grass grow under her feet. She’s no longer full-time station side where she headed marketing like she did at WISN in Milwaukee, but her marketing talents are not sitting in idle. As if being mom to a most adorable little girl under the age of 1 isn’t enough, she’s now working with Marshall Advertising, the folks who handle media buying for many stations. So when Lauren reaches out to you, reach back! Lady is fabulous. Lauren will stay in the Northwest, but isn’t it lovely we can all work from where we are most of the time now. Yes it is. Well Dunne, Lauren!
Horribly destructive weekend in the south. Tornadoes in many places. ERIK SNELL and his family had a very close call with a damaging twister. All is well with the Snells but not so with their neighbors. He’s the CSD at Raycom’s WDAM in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Tomorrow, great news from WPEC in West Palm.

March promises an end to this brutal winter (west coasters – little empathy please) but one energetic promo pro isn’t waiting for the snow to melt. ERIK SNELL is on his way south to take the CSD slot at WDAM in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where temps this week will average in the 60’s. Erik is departing Portland, Maine where he was Marketing and Promotion Manager for WGME, the Sinclair CBS affil. Erik started his TV marketing career at Time Warner Cable in Ohio where he produced commercials before switching to promo producing at WKEF/WRGT in Dayton. From there he stepped up to Promotions Manager for WICD/WICS in Champaign, IL. Back in Columbus he was named On-Air Promotions Supervisor for WSYX/WTTE. Erik et famille will arrive in Mississippi just in time for the Magnolias to bloom. Extra points for those who know Magnolias are the state flower of Mississippi. Well Dunne! Erik.

ERIK SNELL is a Sinclair man – they keep promoting him. The Detroit native is now heading the creative team at Sinclair’s WGME in Portland, Maine (an absolutely gorgeous little city) having made the transition from Columbus, Ohio where he was On-Air Promotions Supervisor for Sinclair’s ABC/Fox combo. The Cedarville Univsersity grad began his TV career at Time Warner Cable where he produced commercials. He also was a producer at Dayton’s WKEF/WRGT duop and was Promotion Manager for WICD in Champaign, IL. Time to break out the champagne with a Well Dunne! to Erik.
