This holiday was absolutely full of ‘non-holiday’ events. From KEYE’s CSD STEVE HARRIS’ truck getting totaled (he’s OK…that’s the best news) to Lincoln, Nebraska based former KLKN TV promo pro DAVE DWINELL’s heart attack and bypass surgery (sending him healing thoughts…knowing he’ll be just fine in no time)….the events weren’t ones that bring about confetti and champagne. Our best thoughts go out to COUNCIL BRADSHAW, Fox Charlotte’s CSD, whose father passed away. And to a Raleigh-based PR lady whose house burned down on T-day itself. It all boils down to the reminder to be kinder with each other. We need to give each other more Well Dunne!’s….and focus on helping each other in any way we can.

Remember, the tech folks are dealing with Well Dunne! Talent site, so it will be up and down for the next few days. We’re still there 1000%….

Name three things that are Philly to the max. 1 – Cheese steaks. Good answer.  2 – Rocky Balboa jogging up those stairs. Yep, that’s true 3 – Cream cheese. Ha! Name only. Let’s add NOELLE KEARNS to the list. The Philly lady is back in the City of Brotherly Love, writing and producing super marketing for MIKE MONSELL at ABC’s WPVI. She worked there and even was an intern there, so it’s rather like home. Ms. Noelle had been out in Phoenix at Scripps’ KNXV, the ABC in the Valley of the Sun, but I guess those snow-free winters are now a thing of the past. The Temple grad (yep, that’s in Philadelphia) is happy and that’s such great news to report. Well Dunne! Noelle.

Well Dunne! Talent’s HARRY LEGG took off for Germany during the Thanksgiving holiday and from the sound of things, he’s having a blast. He’s a super voice those of you who are realizing it’s December and you need to make some changes!

Job Alert – CSD at KNXV Phoenix

Anybody catch the REALLY well edited ABC Family How The Grinch Stole Christmas/25 Days of Christmas spots that ran over the holiday? IMPRESSIVE indeed. Whomever did those – Well Dunne!

FYI – Well Dunne! Talent site is going to be up and down the next few days while some very tech-savy folks do their thing. But fear not…it’s all going to be better in the long run. If you need anything, just call. You remember that old fashioned phone thing, right?

Gratitude is an elusive commodity to some. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons Thanksgiving is such a beloved holiday…it allows us to stop and count our blessings, as trite as that may sound. For those who are working at jobs they love…jobs that help them grow and discover their inner magic, this holiday will be an opportunity to reflect on that. And to think of those who are struggling and need a kind word…a moment of your time on the phone…an acknowledgement. Since last Thanksgiving, so many of us have lost someone we love. Please enjoy those who surround you (even at crowded airports and jammed up Interstates) and find a way to bring a smile. It costs nothing and means everything.

Thank you ALL for reading and following this blog and for those who have discovered the amazing capacity of the Well Dunne! Talent list. You’re the best and for that, I am profoundly grateful. Enjoy your holiday. Come back next week!

Well, Miles is CURTIS MILES, VP of Programming and Creative at ABCs WLS in Chicago and Kahle is KHRIS KAHLE, his soon-to-be new Assistant Creative Services Director. DEAN CAIN is such a cutie. But he’s got a lot of depth and heart. He’s a big part of ION TV’s partnership with Coalition For The Homeless, a holiday outreach where ION Television will donate 2,000 blankets to help needy New Yorkers stay warm this holiday season. The donations will be made through the Coalition’s Grand Central Food Program, which provides hot, nutritious meals to nearly 1,000 homeless and hungry New Yorkers on the streets of the city 365 nights a year. The remaining blankets will be donated throughout the winter. What a lovely gesture. Btw, watch Dean in Defending Santa Nov 24 on Ion. Well Dunne.

How cool is it to get to say SHAZAM all the time, Gomer Pyle fans included. Pretty cool and it’s a very fascinating company with that name that has lured PROMAX/bda head JONATHAN VERK away from leading the international creative group.  He’ll be the new EVP Strategic Partnerships, Head of Television for the company with the name we love.  Need to see if he’ll be relocating to London headquarters or if he’ll stay in LA. Whatever the plan, he’ll be missed but he won’t be a stranger. Well Dunne! Jonathan.

NINA DAVENPORT is the newest member of the creative team at Clockwork VFX. She’s coming aboard as Executive Producer for the NYC (and Dubai) based animation company. She’s been at UPROAR!  She’s bringing a very impressive agency background with her. Well Dunne! Nina.

Yes, it is indeed 11-12-13. Math can be fun. What isn’t fun is losing good people when they leave the industry. One such soon-to-depart gem is SAMANTHA KNOWLTON. She’s been heading up the creative efforts of Scripps’ NBC affil KJRH in Tulsa since 2000 and during that time she was always a total pro with a smile you could feel over the phone lines. What has enticed Ms. Samantha away from the crazy world of TV marketing? Probably the concept of normalcy for one. She’s accepted the slot of Events Marketing Manager for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Excellent. Samantha promises to keep in touch. Well Dunne! Samantha on your new adventure.

Heading back to the south is JEFF HOLUB, who will exit his Director of Marketing slot for KTVU, FOX out in the city by the bay to take the Creative Services Director slot at CBS affil WGCL in Atlanta. In the past, Jeff headed up marketing for WXAN & WSOC in Charlotte after putting in communication time at Piedmont Gas.  The U of Toledo grad did one of my all-time favorite promotions when he sent out a ransom note demanding holiday cheer, accompanied by a little white box with a red reindeer “nose” inside. Sorry that description fails to make the impact his creation did. Well Dunne! Jeff.

KENNY LAWRENCE is never going to have a problem getting an idea approved by his GM again. He’s now the GM! Kenny’s background includes heading up creative at CBS in Boston (he has a degree from Plymouth State in New Hampshire) and has been creative director at Warner Bros Entertainment in LA as well as KCOP. The folks at KMOV TV in St Louis have the most breathtaking view from their office windows: the Arch, the mighty Mississippi, the beautiful Old Cathedral….it’s the kind of view that National Geographic photogs get.  The news from KMOV has nothing to do with their view, but with their new Promotion Manager. But I bet she has the same cool view. BETH ANN GAILEY has been promoted and her CSD JOHN SWEENEY is thrilled to have had her right under his nose. She’s been writing, producing and wrangling community events – obviously doing a great job. The Cleveland native studied TV at Kent State and has worked in Raleigh as well as Las Vegas.  Being in St. Louis, no doubt someone will ask her what high school she went to. Yeah, they do that there. Well Dunne! Beth Ann.

Hard work pays off…gotta believe that. And as proof, behold the new Promo Manager for FOX’s Memphis operation, ALISTAIR CLARK. His work has impressed his CSD, WAHEED ALQUASAMI, who wrote this about his new PM:  “Alistair has been our promotions producer for the past three years. During that time he has helped us launch many award-winning campaigns and has been a crucial asset to our department. I have personally seen Alistair flourish into a very effective writer and cinematographer.”  Well Dunne! Alistair.

Job Alert –  Promotion Producer & Production Assistant WTVD Durham

Halloween Eve

Oct 29, 2013 by     Comments Off on Halloween Eve    Posted under: Featured

To get from Fresno to Las Vegas, one has to fly or drive, circumnavigating notorious Death Valley. It looks close on the map, but takes 5 hours or more by car. When you use Google maps, the directions make it look like a smiley face. It’s what RICK NITIDO has done and he’s gotten lucky in Vegas (doesn’t everybody want that?) and landed the Promo Manager job at NBC affiliate KSNV. He had been in Fresno quite some time, working at various slots at KSEE, but when his old station was purchased and blended with another, he was able to transition to Sin City. The Connecticut native is having a blast. Well Dunne! Rick.

As November ratings approach, let’s remember that the Topical writer-producers are going to be handling prime time promos – very important spots. So if you’ve been asked to do Topicals when you have been doing image or management duties, it’s a compliment. Add how much those prime Topical spots would cost if you bought them. Sure, the hours aren’t “normal” (as if there is a normal anything). But the importance of getting the best on-air possible is the goal. Feel the love.
