Is there anything as exhilarating as someone with a new career slot – they’re so happy and enthusiastic that it transfers and that happiness and enthusiasm makes your day? What a great way to start the week, and we have ALEXANDRIA LEAVENWORTH to thank. She’s the newly named (actually it’s a promotion) creative services producer for Hearst’s KSBW located along the gorgeous central California coast. Ms. Alex, as she calls herself shared the following: I started at KSBW in February 2015 as a part-time Master Control Operator and Production Assistant, was promoted to a full-time Production Assistant in August 2015. Then, I took a risk by dropping from full-time to part-time again, to go into my dream department as an Assistant Creative Services Producer in May 2016, and now am back to full-time in my new role as a CSP! (Whew! It’s been a journey). A go-getter with a Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications specializing in Integrated Media Communications from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Alex sounds like she can handle the biz as it spins different ways daily. She’s a delight and her CSD ED EVEREST was very happy to bring her aboard – bet the whole market loves their work. A very big Well Dunne! Alex!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Want to hear a frightening story? This is one about the recruiting firm that is desperate to fill a major market open CSD slot and the firm has NO idea about what marketing is, no idea about the station itself, no idea how to write (think hyperbole then magnify it for their site and emails) and they don’t coordinate their efforts. That, my pretties, is enough to make one get out one’s flying monkeys.

New Orleans always has a reason to celebrate. Over at Hearst’s WDSU, the NBC affil, CSD ERIN FINNEGAN is celebrating her new Assistant Creative Services Director, DAVID BELL. David is not only a great choice, he’s a very good Super Bowl critiquer (if that isn’t a real word, it is now…) who was kind enough to do so for this very blog. David is moving to The Big Easy from Wichita, Kansas where he was most recently Promotion Director of KSNW. Before that, David worked at KWCH as their Marketing Director. He’s also served as CSD at Tulsa’s KJRH and he kicked off his promo career at WBZ in Boston. To quote Erin: “David brings a tremendous portfolio of experience and creativity to WDSU, including over 15 years of experience as a manager of Creative Services.” So wonderful to hear that David is going to have beignets available to kick off his mornings. Let’s all rollez with the bon temps…or just give David and big Well Dunne!

Hearst hit the jackpot when they hired JAY CHALMERS as the Assistant Creative Services Director for their ABC affil in Palm Beach, WPBF. CSD HEATH MYRICK has hired a real go-getter creative … hip hip hurray! Clay is a Gainesville Florida native who went to Florida State, which means he was playing both sides of the football field, Florida collegiate style. Gators and Seminoles…very dicey subject. After FSU, he then went to the esteemed Savannah College of Art and Design earning a Masters in Film and Television Production. He’s worked as a producer, first doing commercials in Gainesville at WCJB then up to Jacksonville doing promo for First Coast News (WTLV/WJXX) then to Orlando’s FOX WOFL for CSD CHRIS FRIEDRICHS (hi Chris!)…all the while thinking that experiencing different seasons might be fun, as opposed to nonstop sunshine and palm trees. Nah… Jay’s hitting the Palm Beaches just in time for ‘The Season’, dahling. Amazing people-watching along Worth Avenue. So glad to hear about such a happy move, which means he’s still close to family and his wife is happy. Can’t beat that. Well Dunne! Jay.

Winston-Salem is such a nice place to live, it has two names. Along the lines of ‘so nice they did it twice’…. And this time of year, what with the azaleas in bloom and the gardens bursting with life, it’s a perfect time to make it your home. That’s what CORY McRAE et familia are doing. New house, new state, new job. Oh yes, the job…yeah, he’s going to be the new Creative Services Director of Hearst’s WXXI, the NBC affil in the market that is home to the Furniture Capital of the World. Prediction that there will be some new furniture in the McRae family future. And yes, it really is the furniture capital. Cory will be departing Baltimore where he’s been Assistant Creative Services Director for Hearst’s WBAL under CSD JOHN BALDWIN. With his degree from University of Montana at Bozeman (Bozeman, btw, is just gorgeous in case you didn’t know) Cory has promo’d at WDAF in Kansas City, CSD’d at WAPT in Jackson, Mississippi and he has the most interesting background out of the world of TV. He’s a very cool guy and they will be lucky to have his creativity in North Carolina. Well Dunne! Cory.
