The last few days have certainly been, uh, interesting. There was joy and gratitude and the sharing of feelings that bind us as humans. For instance, former promo pro JIM GRAVINA, who is now tearing it up at the DC Agency Shine Creative got married. He and his gorgeous bride are actually on their way to Niagara Falls. Love it!
Up in Raleigh, where the outer bands of Hurricane Matthew raged, WRAL’s SHELLY LESLIE has quite the story regarding a huge heavy tree that fell…right on the car she was in. The tree fell perfectly between her house, not hitting anything. It fell on the car, but didn’t hurt her or her passenger. It’s angelic.
Bright days ahead for WJLA’s ZOHRA ALNOOR got engaged! The lady with the great smile now has the greatest smile. Yes, happiness in spades for this wonderfully talented young lady.

Talent doesn’t usually constrict itself to just one area. Being multi-talented is quite normal, yet we usually think of someone as having one outstanding talent while not knowing of others. Pity. We miss out on recognizing some amazing expressions. Or perhaps the ‘must live the job til you drop” demands leave people too drained to do more than sleep. In any event, let’s direct our attention to former promo pro JIM GRAVINA, who has tapped his inner Picasso, letting his painter muse take him to action. You can see all his latest works on GravinArt’s facebook page. Since Jim said adios to the everyday TV world and took a slot in DC at Shine, he’s been blossoming. Even got engaged. So he is a motions graphic artist, a painter, a magician, a video whiz…Well Dunne! Jim!

JIM GRAVINA is taking an exciting step on his life adventure. Closing the door (reluctantly) on NBC in Miami, Jim is headed north to begin a new creative life at an ad agency in Washington, DC. He’s a native New Yorker, so this is closer to fam. Jim’s a most interesting man of many talents, his work being motion graphics and his passion being magic. He’s a very cool magician and he really should perform at PROMAX (Buehler? Buehler?) he’s THAT good. Hate to see such talent depart the TV world, but so happy for Jim. We all live 365 days year after year, and yet there are some days that, by their events, stand out in our memories. Days marked by weddings, births, new jobs, travel destinations… This August 24th, WNCN’s new CSD KRISTEN BYRUM will experience a double memory day; she begins at the Media General station in Raleigh and her only child starts kindergarten. THAT is a big day. Kristen’s slot at WNCN brings her back to the station where she once interned…this time to lead the creative for the NBC affil. She’s been down in lovely Charleston as CSD for Media General’s CBS affil WCBD. Kristen’s promo development took her from Columbia SC’s WACH/WZRB to Greenville, SC’s WHNS to Raleigh’s FOX 50. Fear not that she’ll run out of energy…she’s a runner who has completed 7 half marathons and is working on her 8th. Must ask her if she’s taking vitamins. A big Well Dunne! to Kristen. What is it about driving across the country that always captures our imagination? The idea of wheeling down Route 66 from Chicago to LA…seeing the Atlantic and then Pacific with all that’s in between….well, it’s part of the American psyche. JIM GRAVINA is going to enmesh himself in the open road when he departs Fresno, CA and ambles across the country to his new job in Miami. Jim has been CSD at Granite’s KSEE and has decided that what he really loves is the hands-on creative process itself, and is going to work for NBC in South Florida, where he’ll be editing and making creative gold for CSD and Programming head JOSE SUAREZ. Stops on the trip will be Indiana, where he once worked in Ft Wayne. Jim is a professional magician (this is his YouTube post), so he’ll no doubt be finding out how magic his new city will be. New CSD out in Fresno. The Newport station has tapped JIM GRAVINA to head up the efforts of the Newport-owned NBC affil, KSEE. Jim has been hard at work after making the move west from Indiana, where he directed and produced for Granite’s Indiana News Center. He’s an artist at the core with a degree from Art Institute of Pittsburgh and knows his way around the high tech world thanks to his degree from Alfred State College –SUNY College of Technology.
