KELLY DONNELL has worked in the most exciting places. He’s adding one to his resume – Sacramento, CA, which is where all the cool kids are living. Yes they are. Who can afford SF? The Cali capital is home to KOVR, the CBS station there and where Kelly will office in his new role heading marketing and creative. He might be a member of the VP club, too. He’s decamping his CS Marketing role at Tribune’s KDVR in Denver. Kelly’s a Florida Gator who’s gotten to live and promo in Honolulu, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Tucson, New Orleans, and New York at MSNBC. Wonderful Well Dunne! to Kelly.

Think About This: “Maybe that’s enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom is realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.” – Anthony Bourdain who will be missed by those who knew him and those he inspired to seek tastes and experiences outside themselves.
When it comes to living in the most exciting, ideal US markets, KELLY DONNELL wins. Kelly is trading in the temperate seaside beach-y perfect San Diego for the adventuresome, outdoorsy energy of Denver. He’s the new Creative Services Director of Tribune’s KDVR, Fox in the Mile High City. He’s transitioning for Tribune, which is where he was in San Diego – at the Fox affiliate. The Florida Gator by education really has lived and worked in the best cities: Honolulu, New Orleans, Chicago, NYC, San Francisco and Tucson. Come on…those are fabulous places. He’s a lucky man. And a talented one. A great big Rocky Mountain Well Dunne! Kelly
Remember last December when B&C named Cleveland’s MICKI BYRNES the GM of the year? Well, Ms. Micki did it again and nabbed the GM of the year for the Tegna chain. She’s a former promo pro who is obviously one fab leader at WKYC. Does that give any of you big chains any ideas? No? Why the heck not? Yeah, you know who you are…
The gates of heaven have been swinging wide open of late. Word comes via RONN KILBY that voice talent DOUG PAUL has passed away in the Atlanta area. If you want info on the memorial, etc, please let me know. Doug had a one-of-a-kind sound and you have all heard him on the many promos he did for networks across many decades. God bless you, Doug.
And yes, there was no WOMAN WRITING done yesterday. It was a day without…

Living the Aloha life is KELLY DONNELL, who will probably not miss the snowy Portland, Maine winters he experienced while heading up the creative team at WGME. Not that Portland isn’t a very cool spot – it is. It’s just that comparing Honolulu and Portland is a tad bit unfair. Kelly is now in the islands, under the palms, not all that far from Waikiki. Ahhhh – paradise. He’s taken the reigns at Raycom’s duop, KGMB/CBS and KHNL/NBC, which is what the islanders call Hawaii News Now. Kelly has his degree from University of Florida and has worked in some amazing markets, like New Orleans, Seattle, Philly and Chicago. Mahalo for the picture, Kelly and a big Well Dunne! to you.

Trading one seaside market for another. Yes, it sounds like a dream and yes, it can be done. Just ask KELLY DONNELL, who is going to leave New Orleans for Portland, Maine. Kelly is a real Southern guy who has worked in NO and survived it all…Katrina, floods, hurricanes, too much Mardi Gras and even the fabulous rich foods that the Crescent City claims as theirs. While in the Big Easy, Kelly has been creative honcho at NO’s net affils WDSU, WVUE and is leaving the Tribune ABC station, WGNO, after two years as their Creative Services Director. Portland awaits as does his new job as Marketing Manager at Sinclair’s WGME in beautiful Portland. For those who aren’t familiar with Portland, it’s hard on the Atlantic offering a sophisticated lifestyle that entices. Kelly has also worked on the Pacific coast at KGO in San Francisco. To make sure he experienced all kinds of terrain, he’s also done that desert thing at KGUN in Tucson. Glad to hear the news, Kelly. And let us know your thoughts about trading crawfish for lobster. Well Dunne!
