With all eyes on Florida and Irma, it seems a little shallow to talk about people with new jobs in TV marketing. But in reality, it’s not. A job is crucial…even though one is cautioned not to let it be part of ‘who you are – it is. A good job can make life better. A bad job can make even the happiest individual miserable. So while we watch the hurricane and send wishes and prayers to all the Floridians…to the friends and colleagues who are helping by broadcasting much needed information…we’ll carry on. Turn the spotlight on those whose smiles and hopes are fresh and whose future is rainbow hued.
KENNY LAWRENCE is now President and GM of Nexstar’s WJHL, in Johnson City, Tennessee. At one time, he was a marketing pro with CBS TV Distribution and at CBS Atlanta. He announced that he’s hired STEVEN WALLACE as his new CSD, so one surmises Steve must have a killer reel and all. Mr. W will be coming to WJHL from ABC affil WTVQ in lovely Lexington, Kentucky. Steven got his promo chops at WFAA in Big D…one of the best. He’s done work with agencies, etc. Well Dunne! Steven. Thanks Kenny.

Zello is an app that let’s you use your cell as a walkie-talkie. It was indispensible during Harvey in Houston so you Florida peeps might want to consider downloading it now. Well Dunne! Talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS, who is in the Fort Lauderdale area, is mpvoice for those who want to connect.
Going to be a long weekend…no matter where you are. Fires all over the west…dust storm in Phoenix, Houston still reeling, and there are 2 Atlantic Ocean hurricanes. God bless each and every…xo
Think About This: “And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through – how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” ~ Haruki Murakami

Just when the reality of it being October hits (meaning the year is quickly running out…how did that happen?) comes very nice news about KENNY LAWRENCE. He’s heading to the lovely mountainous area of Virginia/Tennessee/North Carolina…but not to peep at the colorful leaves. He’s going to take the President and General Manager position at WJHL, the Media General owned CBS affil, officially in Johnson City, TN. He’s been GM down in Lafayette, LA at KLFY, CBS, which was his first GM-ship. But at heart, Kenny is a man who’ headed up creative and programming….did so for CBS in Atlanta, CBS in Boston, Warner Brothers Productions and KCOP in LA. Love it! He graduated from Plymouth State in New Hampshire, making him even more of a fave. I know you’ll all start this Monday off with a hearty, supportive and congratulatory Well Dunne! Kenny!
CLINT GOOCH had a very good weekend. He’s the Assistant Creative Services Director at Fort Smith, AR’s KHBS/KHOG. And he’s now a husband, having tied the knot with the most lovely lady…that’s a weekend event. Best wishes to the Gooch’s.
Hurricane Matthew might make for a very interesting week for the TV folks along the Atlantic coast this week. Good luck ya’ll.
Think About This: “Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling, but start. Start and don’t stop. Start where you are with what you have. Just…start.” ~ Ijeoma Umebinyou

Heading back to the south is JEFF HOLUB, who will exit his Director of Marketing slot for KTVU, FOX out in the city by the bay to take the Creative Services Director slot at CBS affil WGCL in Atlanta. In the past, Jeff headed up marketing for WXAN & WSOC in Charlotte after putting in communication time at Piedmont Gas. The U of Toledo grad did one of my all-time favorite promotions when he sent out a ransom note demanding holiday cheer, accompanied by a little white box with a red reindeer “nose” inside. Sorry that description fails to make the impact his creation did. Well Dunne! Jeff.
KENNY LAWRENCE is never going to have a problem getting an idea approved by his GM again. He’s now the GM! Kenny had recently been at CBS Atlanta where he as head of Marketing and Program Development. Mr. L heads to Lafayette, LA to be General Manager of CBS affil KLFY, owned by Young. Kenny’s background includes heading up creative at CBS in Boston (he has a degree from Plymouth State in New Hampshire) and has been creative director at Warner Bros Entertainment in LA as well as KCOP. Well Dunne! Kenny
