It’s a Two-fer Friday. Two new CSD announcements, all focusing at one place. Like the chess game that TV marketing sometimes becomes, which isn’t really a bad thing for change to fall into place like dominoes . Fresh ideas, fresh energy always energizes any slot at any company; all the more for creatives. So let’s start out with the newest member of the CSD brigade, NATE TODD. Nate’s the new creative leader at Hearst’s WTVM in Birmingham, Alabama. Nate’s promotion is well deserved; he’s been the Assistant CSD at the NBC affil, so he’s all ready to roll. A grad of  University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Nate’s first TV job was as a Topical Producer for WCCB FOX in Charlotte. He then headed a bit north to Winston-Salem’s WXII where he was ASD before heading to Birmingham. A big Well Dunne! to Nate.

Meanwhile, his former boss JASON HOLLOWAY is headed to Hearst in Kansas City, KMBC, where he’ll wrangle the CSD department. Jason began his broadcast career in Abilene, Texas and then headed to KTUL in Tulsa doing Special Projects. He took on the promo world at KMOV in St. Louis (horray hometown and Cardinals!) as Promotion Manager, Special Projects Producer and Photog. The man can do it all!  He then went on to Boston’s WCVB as Assistant CSD under RUSS NELLIGAN before getting his first CSD slot in B’ham. Big Well Dunne Jason!

My bad….I said GREG SLEEPER was going to Boston. That’s correct. That he was going to WCVB. Again, correct. Working with wonderful RUSS NELLIGAN. Yep, that’s right on target correct. BUT (and one would say about the Kardashian camp, that’s a Big But) the title is wrong. He’s joining the creative team in Boston as a Senior Writer Producer. Please direct all ire, corrections and communications expressing that mistake my way, and not to Russ. He’s got a lot to do as it is. Sorry one and all. Now carry on.

Gonna be sending GREG SLEEPER a warm muffler to use come January. He’s heading to Boston to work with CSD RUSS NELLIGAN at ABC affil WCVB; official title Assistant Creative Services Director. It will definitely be a change from Las Vegas, where he’s been kickin’ it as Senior Writer Producer at KLAS under tres cool CSD HENRY VAZQUEZ. Greg is going to enjoy the east coast, having spent most of his career out west. He’s a Navy vet who went to University of Utah and got his first job in TV at Park City Television producing Olympic spots before doing news promo for Salt Lake City’s KSTU. He has been a promo producer for American Forces Network in Riverside, CA and was a field producer for Davis Epps Media. Safe travels to Boston, Greg. You’ll arrive just in time to plan a trip to see all the fall colored leaves in New Hampshire. A very big Well Dunne!

Tenacity. Real tenacity. Not a lukewarm effort accompanied by tenacity rhetoric. It’s amazing to behold and asks that we look at our path to see if we exhibit tenacity, and in what degree. Let’s hold up someone who has it, with a capital “T”. Meet JIM SHOWERS, who is the new CSD at WJHL, Media General’s CBS in Johnson City, TN. If you’ve ever been to the mountains of NC, TN and VA, you know how absolutely gorgeous it is. Jim came east with a Masters degree from Washington State U and started his TV career producing commercials for cable in Twin Falls, Idaho. Again, gorgeous country. He jumped in the marketing pond in Pocatello and then landed at KOAM in Joplin, before it was hit by the tornado that tore it in two. He found his way to Casper, Wyoming and ended up running A/V for the University of Wyoming athletic department, a job he loved. Cutting to the chase, he wanted back into broadcasting (the lure is like a siren call) after being in real estate and he ‘started at the bottom’ doing Topicals for Media General in Spartanburg. Give yourself a gold star if you know that’s WSPA, CBS. When the opening in Johnson City popped up, he found himself in one of the prettiest parts of the USA. And that, as previously stated, is tenacity. A big Well Dunne! Jim.

What with winter easing up and all, it’s no wonder MARC MORRISTON, Marketing Director at WNCT in Greenville, NC is all smiles. Well, there’s more than warm breezes and the lack of snow that’s at issue, actually. He’s thrilled with his new promo producer, DANIEL MALONEY, who was nose to the grindstone during February at the CBS/CW station. Daniel was previously in the news department for the last year or so. Let’s stop calling the move to promo a ‘reprieve’ because several News Directors haven’t embraced that term. Nonetheless, the East Carolina U grad is charged with growing the CW side of the broadcast. Daniel also worked at a TV operation in the market before heading to WNCT. A big Well Dunne! Daniel.

Enough with the winter! West Coasters, you can stop reading now. This is for the folks most everywhere in the country (and outside as well – the UK, for one, is having a horrible time, too!) who are more than ready for an end to this pounding winter. ANDI KIMBROUGH, who is a promo producer for Daystar TV down in the DFW area had a chunk of ice bounce up and destroy her windshield. Luckily, only the windshield was hurt. Up in Terre Haute, IN, CSD TIM SANDERS of WTWO/WAWV thought his car was on the fritz when the outside temp reading on his way to work read -12. Nope, car was working fine – that was the temp. How the amazing folks in Boston are dealing with nearly 100 inches of snow (omg) is beyond comprehension. Hear that RUSS NELLIGAN? Sending you warm thoughts. And to that end, let’s remember the following: Daylight Savings Time starts on March 8 and the official start to Spring is March 25. Well Dunne! Spring.

Up in Portland, Maine News Director MIKE REDDING, helming Gannett’s WCSH, is now the proud grandfather of the most adorable Master Trevor Redding. Well Dunne! Redding gene pool.

Despite the snow, Boston WCVB’s RUSS NELLIGAN was hard at work and he wrote this: “After 8 years and 100 mile daily round trip commute,  MATT LEBOWITZ  will be working in his back yard, taking over the reigns as Creative Services Director at Providence RI’s WJAR.  Matt is awesome – WJAR is very lucky to have him. We’ll miss him dearly, but we are delighted for him.  His auto mechanic is filing a protest". That is why there’s a Sr. Promo Producer slot open in Beantown and why we’re so happy for Matt. He’s a James Madison U grad (I wonder if he remembers screenwriter KAREN LUTZ before she wrote Legally Blonde…) who also has a Masters in writing from Johns Hopkins. Wow. His first job in TV was in Richmond, VA as a production assistant at WTVR before getting hired as a promo producer at Sinclair’s flagship duop in Baltimore. He went to WBAL in Balto before heading to WJLA in DC and then the New England Spots Network in Boston. His new job will find him in Providence where he once did promo for WPRI/WNAC. And yes, I just about guarantee he will be thrilled not to spend so much time in his car! A big, snow covered Well Dunne! Matt!

Talk about a change in scenery. KELLY LAMBERT is trading Boston for Houston. She’s staying in TV marketing, of course, but lobster is being replaced by Gulf Coast shrimp as a menu item. For Kelly, Hearst’s ABC affil in Bean Town WCVB is being replaced by Post Newsweek’s KPRC as employer. And Ms. Kelly is stepping into management with the post of Brand Manager over on the Southwest Freeway for her new job. It’s not her first  Post Newsweek slot…she was down in Jacksonville at WJXT, where her new boss MIKE GUERRIERI once worked as well. Thanks to WCVB’s CSD RUSS NELLIGAN for the update. He’s, of course, looking to replace her. And a Well Dunne! to you Kelly.

The Windy City is set to welcome a new creative in the form of GRANT HORNE, who is taking the Promotion Manager slot at FOX Chicago. Grant is a particularly super guy, and he was written up in a previous Well Dunne blog post. He’s been at WCVB, the Hearst ABC in Boston, working with another favorite, CSD RUSS NELLIGAN. Once in Chicago, Grant will report to the lovely and talented CARRIE KING and, as a bonus, get to work with Well Dunne! Talent’s NICK SANABRIA, who knows Chicago like the back of his hand. He’ll be a big help, Grant. Well Dunne!

Elsewhere in Chicago, ROGER EBERT is fighting a recurrence of his cancer. I hope you’ll join in sending him healing wishes for an end to his health issues. Always been a huge Ebert fan.

EVAN MINSKOFF is a hoot…he describes himself on his Twitter page as: “SVP, Marketing & Brand Strategy @OvationTV. Comedy-writing, sitcom-loving, carb-obsessed dog fanatic.” Who doesn’t love that??  He’s coming to Ovation from head of branding at Gilt Group. His background is most impressive…Disney, Digitas and The About Group. Well Dunne! Evan.

When CSD JIM HART at ABC15 in Phoenix called with the news that his Topical Producer GREG HARMON was leaving, there was sadness in his voice. But also Jim knew it was the right time for the creative bird to fly the nest and couldn’t be happier with the news. Greg is finishing up in the Valley of the Sun today so he can start next Monday with CSD MATT LAWS (who is Matt Laws IV…very cool) at KIRO in Seattle. Yes, the Arizona native and his wife are moving to the Pacific Northwest and are looking forward to getting tired of the rain. It will be a new experience. Greg and Mrs. Greg have family up in the NW, so he’s actually catching up with them. He calls Tucson his  hometown. Happy and safe travels, Greg. And when you have a moment between writing and producing spots  in the Emerald City (Seattle’s nickname…Google says so), go check out the original Starbucks and tell us what you think. Well Dunne! Greg.

Jim is looking for a kick-it producer, so consider this a job alert!

All you NYC  PROMAXERS be on the lookout for RAY ECKE, the coolest writer and PR man around. He’s Well Dunne!’s stringer for the conference and will be sharing his insights, sightings and pix with us. Sure you’ll find Ray to be Well Dunne!

Lovin’ Boston’s WCVB’s new local programming, and it is NOT news. Shout out to RUSS NELLIGAN just for the fun of it.

How nice to hand over the reigns of the posting every now and then…so let’s hear the applause….(hello, applause please)  for CSD RUSS NELLIGAN of Boston’s ABC affil. Take it away Russ…

I’m pleased to announce three new additions to the WCVB Creative Services Department.
Let me start by welcoming BEN TSE our new part-time Graphic Designer. Ben is a brand-new graduate of The New England Institute of Art. Ben was our stand-out intern this past autumn… with plenty of talent, creativity and a healthy dose of computer skills. Ben started working with us in December.

Next, welcome to our new full-time Promotion Producer KELLY LAMBERT. Kelly joins us from WJXT-TV Jacksonville, FL. Kelly was focused on promoting WJXT’s 10p news (Jacksonville’s #1 Late News) creating topicals, image and sweeps promotion. She’s a solid producer, a skilled editor and just one look at WJXT’s Facebook page will show you her considerable social media skills. Kelly realizes it’s cold in Boston, yet is excited to start producing the night-time topicals for Boston’s #1 Late News, beginning January 3, 2011.

Last but not least, RICHARD FEINDEL will join us as our new Creative Services Photographer/Editor. While you may not know Richard’s name, you are certainly familiar with his work. For the past two years, Richard has been shooting and editing promos for WHDH Ch7. In his “spare time” as their New Media Promotions Producer, Richard redesigned Ch 7’s website and launched their Facebook page. While working to create beautiful images and digital delights for the competition, Richard admired WCVB-TV Ch 5 from a far and jumped at the chance to join our team. Richard also starts on January 3rd, 2011.

Well Dunne! to Ben, Kelly and Richard. And to WCVB all around! Now stay warm kids!

Job Alert – tired of the cold weather? Then you might want to do promotions in Palm Springs at KESQ.
