As was the case with the amazing TV people in Houston, the Florida TV pros stepped up and did epic work covering Irma. They still are. The internet allows us to see their news on-air, which is a modern miracle imo. The Florida, Georgia, South Carolina markets all shone. So many stories…so many deserving our attention and applause. So let’s start and keep adding to the honor role. And interest role, since we’re starting with blatant WDT promotion.

Well Dunne! Talent’s DARYN JOHNSON is a TV director for Fox’s WTVT in Tampa and was making it all happen on the air while sleeping in an office at the station on West Kennedy. Well Dunne! Talent’s SEAN CALDWELL headed to Atlanta and Irma followed him up I-75. An Atlanta resident already, RICH VANSLYKE read copy for Florida markets while preparing to have the hurricane mess with his town. Big-voiced MITCH PHILLIPS kept his sense of humor from the Fort Lauderdale area. All are safe.

In Jacksonville, WJXT’s Meteorologist JOHN GAUGHAN (pronounced Gone) did an A+ job on Irma in the Jax market. Promo that man with “GAUGHAN WITH THE WIND”. (Sorry SHERRY CARPENTER…had to use that.)

Creative “architect” STAN MELTON heads up DC’s ABC affil WJLA…and he recently teamed up with STEPHEN ARNOLD and his music, using the SAM cut “Waking Up My Day” for the station’s American Idol Front of the Line contest. The cut is part of the new “Ready” promo package. Well Dunne! Stan Stephen and CHAD COOK, VP of Creative for SAM.

This Monday is not going to be any ol’ Monday. Not the ‘gotta get to work why can’t weekends be longer’ Monday. No…it’s going to be happy. And what is happier than love? This Monday dawns finding the lovely ZOHRA ALNOOR (of WJLA promo fame) a married lady.  She eloped! And…wait for it…because it is February sweeps, she went back to work! OMG, does CSD STAN MELTON not have the most wonderful lady working for him!?! Notice to WJLA…think bonus. We are all sending the newlyweds our best!

Former CBS Boston promo pro JESSICA HENRICHS has added a new title to her resume: Mom. She and her handsome hubby welcomed a beautiful little girl to the world. Yes, all smiles and cuddles and happiness emanating from Chicago, where Jess is a VP at Digitas.

San Diego is just a few miles down I-5 from LA, so the same palm trees, ocean side living and California laid back lifestyle remains the same. So its all good for ANDREW BIDWELL, the new nightside Topical Producer at Scripps’ ABC affil KGTV. All KINDS of things are going on at KGTV out in San Diego, the city of perfect weather. The Scripps ABC affil has hired a fascinating Senior Producer Commercial Production who’s already hard at work.  And (hush hush) a Topical who is about to be announced. Let’s start with BILL ROLAND, the Sr. Prod Comm’l Prod, who’s returning to KGTV after a few years gone. He was doing his own thing, which included starting up online concerns as well as directing and freelancing the video creative side of him. He was KGTV’s Marketing Manager at one time. Bill graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography (man has an eye). Coolest thing…he was part of Carsey-Warner’s Cybill TV series as a camera production assistant. Know he’s making a sham of Thomas Wolfe’s ‘you can never go home again’ concept. Well Dunne! Bill.

New Topical will be announced when all the ducks are in a row. However, it should be noted that KGTV CSD STAN MELTON JR has some gigantic news of his own….

Gotta love ‘em.  Winter Park, FL-based Kre8 Media has found a way to bring data to life vis-à-vis their new VP of Data Science and Analytics, TINA WISER. Ms. Tina looks far to young to have her background of work with clients like Toyota, Mattel and 3M. The University of the Phillipines grad is moving east from LA where she was with Hawthorne Direct. Well Dunne! Tina.

Give it up for (which means click the link and listen) to KELLY PIDGEON, who is always Well Dunne!, and his musical group Boats Against the Current. Extra points to those who get the name reference.

Oops…GAYLE BEATTY of the broken wrist story from yesterday was at Scripps’ WFTS, not Gannett’s WTSP. Yes, there is need for a good editor…or babysitter…or something like that. LOL.

Think About This: “If I knew that today would be the last time I’d see you, I would hug you tight and pray the Lord be the keeper of your soul. If I knew that this would be the last time you pass through this door, I’d embrace you, kiss you, and call you back for one more. If I knew that this would be the last time I would hear your voice, I’d take hold of each word to be able to hear it over and over again. Today’s Promo promotee (new phrase – rather keen on it) is CHRISSY SELLERS who is the spanking new Promotion Manager at Jacksonville’s WJXT. Wasn’t that the best…several days when we all caught our breaths, took time to realize our extraordinary lives are gifts…when we thought of those we love and might have gotten to spend time with them…when we smiled and laughed and let happiness share our spaces. May your holiday have been restful and energizing and most simply marvelous.

Speaking of most simply marvelous, one of the best people in the biz, and someone who is considered part of the family, has a new adventure before him. PHIL KRAFT is going to San Diego.  He’ll be the Sr. Writer Producer for Scripps’ KGTV working with both CSD STAN MELTON JR and Promo Manager LEILA STILLWELL at the ABC affiliate. Phil will be sadly leaving WJLA in DC, but he is rather happy to depart winter. A warm weather man by nature, Miami is where he grew up. He’s been at WJLA twice (loves it that much) as well as KPIX in San Francisco, KTVT in DFW, WFTV in Orlando, and WCNC in Charlotte where he began his Promo life, rescued from editing news. He and Stan are going to rekindle an old work relationship….Stan was his boss at WJLA at one time. The cross country adventure is on…and we’re sending Phil all the best wishes for his new job and many a Well Dunne!

Job Alert – Promo Pro BONNIE WOOD and WJLA are going to need to replace Phil, so all you writer producers out there, you know what to do now.

San Diego is one of those perfect places to live, discounting the sky-high housing costs of course. It’s got the Pacific, hills offering gorgeous views, a world class zoo, ideal weather and the best vet in the US in La Jolla. Adding to the San Diego cache is one of the best guys in the TV marketing universe – STAN MELTON, who is on board to head up creative at Scripps’ ABC affiliate, KGTV. Mr. Melton and his brilliant writing talents bring a hefty background to the new job – he’s a product of the Belo Texas operations where he sharpened his skills as CSD at KENS in San Antonio after kicking off his career at WFAA in Dallas. Stan headed up creative at WJLA in DC as well as their sister cable operation and for the last few years has run Brown Bag Creative. What a wonderful happy win-win this is. It’s a move totally across the country, but that makes it all the more fun. Let’s have a big sincere Well Dunne! Stan.

Kudos to DAVE McDONALD who was promoted at WPIX, the NYC Trib station. The new title of Sr. Producer is well deserved. Well Dunne! Dave.

DC is hot this time of year. Literally. And it just got hotter with the news that ANDREA LAIGN will be joining the Fox creative team in the nation’s capital. Her new title under VP MIKE HENRY is Senior Writer Producer, and she’ll be absolutely fabulous. A native of the area, Ms. Andrea has worked at ABC affil WJLA under their super then-CSD STAN MELTON and the talented BONNIE WOOD…and just down the road at Hearst’s WBAL in Baltimore.  The high energy lady also worked at KPRC in Houston, so she’s bringing a lot of know-how to the new assignment. A new media kind of girl, Ms. Laign has some of my favorite Facebook posts and a darn cute dog.  Well Dunne! Andrea.

Job Alert – Graphic Designer at KSTP in Minneapolis

A Well Dunne! to Apple, who as of July 20 is giving all their store employees a $4 an hour raise. Is there a better way to share their wealth and help global economics than that?

What great news out of Florida. ROB VENUSTI has the greatest job. He’s Director of Marketing and Creative Services at FOX Sports Florida and Sun Sports. Yeah, that’s perfect…sun, palm trees and sports. He’s in Ft. Lauderdale, but also spends time at the operation in Orlando. Cool. Rob is no stranger to Florida…he spent time as CSD at WBZL (now WSFL) down in Hollywood, FL. He comes to this new gig after being CSD and Brand Marketing at Fox affil KWGN in Denver. Well Dunne! Rob. So glad to hear you’re happy.

YES indeed..that was Well Dunne! Talent’s beloved BOB MAGRUDER on last night’s episode of The Deep End. As usual, he was a pleasure on the eyes and on the ears. No kidding…if you want a voice that exudes TRUST better than anybody else…then you need Bob. Btw, he had a blast working with Billy Zane and the lovely Nicol Ari Parker.
