Raycom Director of Research BILLY MCDOWELL isn’t just a great guy (worked with him long ago…) and an insightful research pro, it seems he’s also a musician!  ReverbNation has his song performing in the top 3% so he will be a featured artist with them for the next couple of weeks. Give it a listen.

Kudos to WENDY MCMAHON for being elected to the Board of Directors of the Broadcasters Foundation of America. Wendy is, of course, President of the ABC O&O Station Group and a former promo pro deluxe. Well Dunne!

Anybody watch the premiere of Yellowstone with Kevin Costner on the Paramount Network? BEAR MENOR, the most handsome and talented young actor is in it. That’s a shout out and a tease at the same time…see how that happened? Anyone needing a young man with a natural read, well he doe that too.

Lots to ponder. Let’s hear a big Well Dunne! for them.

Think About This:  “The problem isn’t that more people hate than love; the problem is when those who hate, hate with greater conviction than that displayed by those who love. Our love needs to rise up now like a mighty wave that will not stop building: passionate, convicted and applied to everything.”  ~  Marianne Williamson

So many creative people are lost to us when their heart chooses to stop beating. That’s what happened to ROXANN NELSON. Roxann passed away on Tuesday night. She was a promo pro who was living in the Minneapolis area, running her own insurance shop after a notable career doing TV marketing. For the last six years, she headed up Roxann Nelson Medicare and Family Health Insurance.  Her TV leadership was evident in her stints as CSD for WSOC in Charlotte, Hearst in Kansas City and Creative Head for ShopNBC. Her TV marketing career began at KARE in her belove Minneapolis. She helped launch talented people and, from all accounts, her laughter and her stories were legendary. She was what Hollywood used to call A Swell Dame. In the vein of Molly Ivins. High praise indeed. Let PETE BARRETT, the busiest man in the TV biz, finish this out:  Roxann Nelson, your star shines bright in our memories as a marketer, a very funny person, and as a friend. She wrote on my page regularly, and was a sympathetic ear when I was looking for work. RIP, Rox.

Big Well Dunne! to WENDY McMAHON’s promotion to President of the ABC Owned TV Stations Group. She’ll be walking in the high-heeled footsteps of REBECCA CAMPBELL. Yes, ladies, we’re taking over. Don’t worry guys, we’ll treat you very well.

Think About This: “Dying is inevitable and intimate. I have seen ordinary people at the end of their lives develop profound insights and engage in a powerful process of transformation that helped them to emerge as someone larger, more expansive, and much more real than the small, separate selves they had previously taken themselves to be. This is not a fairy-tale happy ending that contradicts the suffering that came before, but rather a transcendence of tragedy…. I have witnessed a heart-opening occurring in not only people near death, but also their caregivers. They found a depth of love within themselves that they didn’t know they had access to. They discovered a profound trust in the universe and the reliable goodness of humanity that never abandoned them, regardless of the suffering they encountered. If that possibility exists at the time of dying, it exists here and now.”  ~  Frank Ostaseski

KARA MCNEELY has traded the palm trees of Miami for the palm trees of Los Angeles.  A distance of approximately 2,733 miles.  Ms. Kara has gone west because she has taken the Promotion Manager slot at KABC, where she’s been hard at work since March. Good thing, since her VP WENDY MCMAHON had her hands full with her new baby son during that time frame. Kara came on board from NBC in Miami where she was Director of Brand and Marketing. Along the way Kara has also worked doing promo for Scripps network in Knoxville, WISH in Indianapolis, as well as Tribune and Granite. Well Dunne! Kara.

Think About This:  “If you were to say to the grown-ups: "I saw a beautiful house made of rosy brick, with geraniums in the windows and doves on the roof," they would not be able to get any idea of that house at all. You would have to say to them, "I saw a house that cost $20,000." Then they would exclaim, "Oh, what a pretty house that is!”   ~  Antoine de Saint Exupéry from The Little Prince

Well Dunne! to KHOU’s DALE LOCKETT. He’s been promoted and had his duties – and title – expanded. Dale is now Director of Creative Services and Community Marketing. If you don’t know Dale, that’s a shame.  He’s one of the really good – and totally creative – guys.

A delighted welcome to Chase Burton who made his world debut March 21 in San Francisco. He’s sharing his birthday with the lovely Estes Crony (Dad is WROC’s ED CRONY). Chase will be calling two promo pros parents. Mama WENDY McMAHON, VP of Creative and Programming at KABC and Dad BILL BURTON, VP & GM of KGO, who has a promo background himself. All best wishes to the growing Burton clan!

Well Dunne! Talent’s ISSA LOPEZ and her wisdom teeth are parting ways today. It’s an amicable split. She’ll be back to reading scripts shortly.

CANDACE ARCHER HIRLEMAN no longer has to worry about her heart being in San Francisco while the rest of her isn’t. The big news and a great holiday present is that she’s going to be in SF top to toe when she takes her new office at KGO.  The ABC station has found their long-sought VP of Creative Services. Sister ABC station KABC is where Candace is currently Promotion Manager working with VP Programming and Creative Services WENDY MCMAHON.  Candace has her degree from Cal State Sacramento and has worked at KRON in SF as well as KGMB in Honolulu. Wow, she has gotten to live in the best places!  Well Dunne! Candace and Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau’oli.

JOSHUA AUSLEY is the new Commercial Producer at WXII, NBC in the Greensboro-High Point and Winston-Salem market. Lovely NC Piedmont country it is. WNCT’s head creative MARC MORRISTON is in NYC having a holiday blast. On deck is seasonal cheer, Letterman, Spiderman and generally the kind of activities that make memories.

Harvard Business School grad ANDREW ZEIN is onboard at Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD) in a brand new slot – EVP/Head of International Television Productions. It’s a new branch of the company and it’s London based.
