Chuck Harrell

Let me tell you about CHUCK HARRELL. He was a most lovely and gentle man. He was born and raised in Mount Olive, NC and his wedding brought people from near and far…to stand on the corner of Cucumber and Vine. Mt. Olive pickles will always be my brand. Chuck knew stuff…a lot of tech stuff. He was my first phone call when I ran into a tech problem (a lot) and he was, at one time, an Apple Genius. Never once sighing and making this writer feel tech stupid, even when that was true. He worked at WRAL in Raleigh and then WNCN there, using the editing systems like a master playing the piano. He wanted to please everyone, so he wasn’t the fastest promo guy around, but everybody loved him, and his work was beautiful. He moved to the San Francisco Bay area where his beloved CHARLIE was born. Never have known a father so happy to have a son. In SF, he did topicals for KTVU, where the legendary and demanding DENNIS RICHMOND held the anchor chair. Dennis ate promo people for dinner – but he didn’t intimidate Chuck. They got along like peas and carrots. His promo skills were used nationally for Oracle and Chuck ended up being part of the group that launched KRON ON, the pioneering news presentation  platform out of Nexstar’s KRON. Chuck had a heart attack Aug 23 and left us. The world keeps losing such unique and caring people…Rest in Peace my friend.

Think About This: “When I die, give what’s left of me away to children and old men that wait to die. And if you need to cry, cry for your brother walking the street beside you. And when you need me, put your arms around anyone and give them what you need to give me.  I want to leave you with something, something better than words or sounds. Look for me in the people I’ve known or loved, and if you cannot give me away, at least let me live in your eyes and not in your mind.  You can love me best by letting hands touch hands, and by letting go of children that need to be free. Love doesn’t die, people do. So when all that’s left of me is love, give me away.”  ~ Kaddish Yatom – Mourners Kassish
