Put on your seat belt…we have a long way to go today….so let’s get on it. The pace of change is fierce.

Retirement? Well, it’s a thing. Not just for people of a certain age, but getting to a certain age causes one to ponder the world and how to fit into it. Who doesn’t want to forego traffic, time constraints, and a waning lack of enthusiasm that slowly creeps into the bones? And who doesn’t want to do what they want when they want it? Jeff Bezos has made a fortune on that idea. If one has the ability to do so and the banker’s thumbs up, then head to the door and enjoy the farewell party cake. Announcing his retirement is WFLA’s TOM HEBEL, who has been around and been a marketing leader for quite some time. He’s departing (or is it departed?) the Nexstar NBC in Tampa. Tom’s career includes with his Masters sheepskin from Southern Illinois U Carbondale. He moved to Chicago to handle promo duties at CBS’ WBBM after being head of video production for a prodco named Will It Play In Peoria located in, where else, Peoria. He did his own thing in Chicago for a bit then spent eleven years at ABC’s WLS where he joined the VP club. Most creatives never just stop being thus, so it will be interesting to see what his next chapter will be. Well Dunne! Tom.

Another retirement is ED BARK, who was the TV Media writer for the Dallas Morning News. Ed was an institution in Big D, writing ‘inside info’ on what was happening behind cameras and closed door. But not tabloid-y. Just witty. When the paper cut jobs, he launched a website version of his writing called Uncle Barky. Always a great place to surf and catch up. But he’s signed off and Uncle Barky is no more. Sadly we salute him with a Well Dunne! Ed.

In our own Well Dunne! back yard, SUE BERG is hanging up her mic cables and stowing away her recording gear. The Chicago-based talent’s professionalism, sweet character, and on-target contributions to spots of all kinds will be greatly missed by producers across the country. Adios and Well Dunne! Sue.

Ugly Betty’s producer, Silvio Horta, brought a thoroughly entertaining series to life. But depression and a career lull took a toll to the point he took his own life. A very successful TV marketing pro went through a very long drought of possibilities, and did the same. He did it the day after calling here. The point is that many of us hide when we need help, or are down, or are trying to keep up appearances. It’s bollocks. We can help each other and there are so many who understand and want to do what can be done. Do not think there’s no answer. There always is. Always.

BRAD CRUM, promo and marketing guru of many kudos, brought this to light. ARTHUR GREENWALD, who was with Group W doing all kinds of creative things, is in need of a kidney. Not kidding. He needs one. Nobody is expecting you to jump up and dole out one of your two, but throwing in a little something into the pot to help the wonderful Arthur -it’s the right thing to do. Info here, all quite creative as is Mr. G. https://arthurkidney.com/?fbclid=IwAR34ZBBUgXhCyVi-NxG1lDc-ShNXkKdXtc3LMYWVRJXp0ujGTFKD03p10sU
