My little friend Mila is in the 4th grade. I get to spend time with her this summer. We’ve been talking a lot about what fun activities we can do. Planning for the golden days of summer that are so special to a 10 year old. That was the age of many of the murdered children down in Uvalde. Uvalde is a semi-border town surrounded by wealthy ranchers – even the former Governor Dolph Briscoe called Uvalde home. It’s rather laid back. And now it’s heartbroken. A town that size means they all know each other in a way big city people don’t really grasp. So all of Uvalde will take the violence and seek to ways to make sense of it. There will be so many tears and empty bedtimes. Today, in lieu of hearing about happy colleagues with new adventures, let’s think of the parents whose summer plans will not be needed.
