April 9, 2020 – isolation con’t

BOB HARDY hosted a radio show on clear channel, 50,000 watt KMOX, back in the days when talk radio held to the rules of the Fairness Doctrine and the Equal Time Amendment. Bob once asked “how long will it take for the world to fall into chaos?” “Anarchy, Bob?” A gentleman farmer who focused on agricultural issues, he replied with total resolve, “Three days.”  The reasoning behind his statement was that three days is the length of time it takes a person to get good and hungry. That conversation, over the station intercom between show segments, seems more prescient today. His pronouncement has stayed nearly top of mind for a very long time. Especially now. Long lines are the norm now at food banks where food itself is running low. Perhaps there are ways to use your airtime to help feed those in your market. Think of it as helping us avoid anarchy.  That’s today’s expanded Think About This.

The mother part of the psyche sees problems before they might occur. The first part of this isn’t a problem but a happy announcement that Tegna has named JENNIFER WOODRUFF to the open Director of Marketing slot at Portland, OR’s KGW, NBC in the market. Now here’s the part where the mom part jumps up with a warning: Jennifer has been at Tegna in Portland…Maine. Yes, she’s been Marketing Director of WCSH hard on the Atlantic. (Working with the best News Director east of the Mississippi, Mike Redding.) The artistic Coloradan might have a grand time with companies and people – and the Post Office – distinguishing the Oregon Portland from the Maine Portland. No matter what happens, a Well Dunne! is in order.

What was not in order was getting the mail application to work so you can read this in your inbox instead of here online. Oh well…tomorrow is another day.

Think About This: “May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.”  ~  Peter Marshall
