Of course you all know that it’s all in jest when this column refers to the news departments as ‘the dark side’. So with that in mind, there’s a very interesting move you should know about. And it involves not only one of my favorites but one of the best writers around. Down in Houston, MARIAH GARDNER has traded her Promotion Manager slot for one in the KPRC Newsroom. She’s now the Executive Producer of Planning and Special Events for the Graham Media NBC affil. The NYU grad is going to knock the task out of the park. Promotion-minded people should, indeed, be the ones to use their research combined with their ability to know what the viewers want to fashion special reports and events. Bravo KRPC. While that job is huge in itself, she’s also a great wife and mom. Her 2 year old is just adorable. Her background includes stations WAGT in Augusta (golf people…she knows Augusta!) and writing film reviews. Well Dunne! Mama Mariah.

Sadly, MARSHALL HITES, PROMAX Hall of Famer and great friend, has lost his sister. He wrote so elegantly about her that Kleenex was needed. God bless you all, Marshall.
