Had a lovely discussion yesterday about how talent does not fence you in but opens the path to so many different career paths. Yes, TV creative is absolutely top of the mark (or has been…) but other pursuits can be more rewarding, both emotionally and remuneratively. One such example of the wide range of options open to creative talents is the relatively new Creative Director of CBS affil WWL in NOLA, GERALD WILSON. On the job since June, his background is diverse: from being a multi-media specialist in the health care area to the world of publishing. He’s even had the terrific job of editor for The Dog Whisperer. Of course he has a TV background…Producer at WOLO Columbia SC and jobs at Litton Entertainment in Charleston, where the dog show came about. Like all of us, he’s done his fair share of freelance. So two things: 1-your talents are not limiting you to a TV job and 2-his Marketing Director BEN BATES knows #1. Well Dunne! GERALD.

All the talk, words, efforts, and pixels focusing on why there are no takers for the myriad of producer jobs open in the TV world….yet crickets on how to fix it. That seems very odd….  AND while I’m wound up, have you noticed that there are more than enough to make a football team worth of ads that do not mention the station name at all? Nope, like a blind ad for creative people. Hmmm…that’s just not a good idea.
